during Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate, the game crashed with nothing but an error box saying "F.E.A.R. has run out of memory" (i have 6GB) which lead me to believe there is some sort of memory leak. did anyone else get this?? this did not happen to me during the original game, only for both expansions.

How long would you be playing before it comes up with the message?

well the expansion packs arent too long, so it only occured once in both- i finished the gmaes before it had the chance to happen again
in Extraction Point, it was right at the point where you stumble onto Jin's body, so about 3 or 4 hours into the game maybe??
in Perseus Mandate, i forget the part, it was near the beginning actually, maybe an hour into the game? i finished it without it happening again though.

if it crashes again, before you close the check, open the task bar, and check how much memory the fear process is using

yea cuz I have left all them open for a good like 5+ hours just sitting there and came back to continue playing and never had this happen...

That happens to me before I can get out of the first room...
I have 12gig of ram... so I should never run out of memory :P
sys spex:
i-7
Rampage extreme 2
12gig corsair tri-sli
bgf gtx295
Auzentech 7.1
win7 x64
I have all the new drivers and updates applied to the rig, I have verified the files, and done all the usual steps. I changed the config file to match my res on the monitor but it has the same problem even with that at default settings.
I have tried admin and xpsp3 compat modes and no luck.
Another problem along with that crash is no sound... or sound that works when it feels like it. I tried DL'n some codec packs.. one from shark (don't use it...) that just added problems in general and I had to roll back my rig's OS to get it running right again and get rid of there crap codec packs.
I can play FEAR2 full tilt, 3D and all no issues what so ever. FEAR1 some sound issues and some crashes, disabling the overlay for STEAM helped a lot there, but did nothing to make FEARXP work.
I hear the pirated versions work... can't get in trouble for having one if you purchased the game and have proof of owner ship right? (as in it's in my steam log...) Just considered a back up copy then? While I would like to get this one working I'm not looking forward to spending more time that it takes to beat the game trying to get it to work when I can hit the DL button and walk away... I would rather make this work, but if I can't I might do that.
Any help getting this one up and running? Seamed the right spot to post this since this might be part of the same problem.
ps what are your system specs?
Edit: Particularly your sound card.. I hear that is the cause of many problems in this line up.

FEAR ran stable for me. Never crashes. I just started excraction point and within the first 20 mins, i had 2 crashes. Screen just froze, music kept playing and thats it. Ate over 1 GIG of memory on both times.
Compared to the first fear, this excraction point runs so laggy on this same setup that its barely playable. What on earth they did to make this go so wrong.
The game is on Steam, patch can be applied easily. Warner Bros, Monolith, whatever who is responsible for this game should make a FIX.

I have to admit, but ICantShoot is right about Extraction Point. I even exceed the recommended settings on System Requirements Lab.
The first F.E.A.R. runs fast for me. I mean FAST!
As far as Extraction Point, the level loads are MUCH slower than the first and it's often laggy even on a resolution of 1024x768.
No crashes so far, but the lag is making me angry.

I've never had a problem with Extraction Point, it just ran the same as F.E.A.R. for me. Guess I'm just lucky :\
