I'm about to download HL: Source onto my Windows 7 64-bit, are there any bugs I should be aware about and how would I go about troubleshooting these. Thanks in advance.

That's what I play on and haven't had any major issues apart from one weapon not working (game locks up). Check my thread I made a week ago or so.

HL:S runs fine on modern OS'
If you want to know about usual issues in advance, check the support KB. There's an article about Vista/7-specific issues (with Steam of course) and about generic game crash troubleshooting.

So I've got it and it runs without any trouble. Only thing is that the valve logo doesn't pop up when the game launches...
Oh, and I haven't gotten the Tau cannon thing yet, I heard that it causes crashes?

I just got to the part where you fight the first itchysaur and I accidentally fell in the water. That thing moves so fast! I was screaming while flailing my crowbar and struggling to jump up onto land. I was able to kill it with my crowbar while taking 0 damage. ....stupid jumping mechanics

Yes, if you can get into the right orientation relative to the shark, it can't hurt you and you can smack it with the crowbar until it dies.
Also the shark is probably the second scariest monster in the game next to the human assassins.

I tried the .357 on the assassins this time. Made them much easier to deal with. :)

Yes, on the easy mode a single magnum shot kills them even if it's not a headshot, making it the best way to deal with them (the crossbow bolt takes time to fly so it's less reliable). With that first bunch of assassins, you can just go around to that little storage room, camp behind the entrance, and plug them with magnum bullets as they walk in front of the door. :D

I play on hard and use the grenade launcher on them. One shot kill. Kinda messy tho.

Whaddyu take me for? I play on Normal. No, I will never try Hard, but I'm not a total wimp. :p (Yes, it took two shots, but it was still a lot better than whatever I used last time! :))

Well if it takes two magnum shots, it's faster and safer to use the crossbow. Or you can use satchels. Or you can just make sure you get a headshot with the magnum. :)
