I just bought the EAW Gold pack on steam, installed it and it doesn't want to run. the starting game pop up happens and then disappears and my computer acts like its going to start the game, but it doesn't launch.

I've got the most recent drivers for my video card, just checked and updated when i first started having this problem. I've tried various compatibility modes, running it as administrator, and i tried running it through steam and just using the shortcuts in the common folders. but nothing works.

OS Is win 7 64 bit, 6 gigs ram, and an ATI Radeon HD 4670 vid card.

Im having the same issue. All i get is a black screen. I made sure all my drivers were updated and all the other problems listed in the support for video errors.

Im running vista 32 bit. 6 gigs ram and an ATI Radeon HD 3450 video card. Anybody got any ideas here?

you have to install the RAM FIX

I've seen other posts that dont need that fix to run the game with more than 3 gigs of ram. the ram fix is already included in the steam version. also: the ramfix doesnt work with the steam version anyway, i tried several times and it failed each time.

@Tenkari & kjohnson198

I remember very vividly that a LOT of people had problems with the greater than 3 Gb Ram issue with the retail version on Vista. This was resolved when EAW:Gold RETAIL was patched. As the Steam ver is not patched, the problem may still exist.

If you're comfortable opening your box, why not remove 4 Gigs and leave 2 in and give it a shot? You have nothing to lose apart from maybe 10 minutes of your time.

If you're uncomfortable opening your box, try this -

Start -> Run -> MSCONFIG -> BOOT.INI tab -> Advanced options -> "tick" the MAXMEM option and enter 2000 (upto 3225 is reported to work).

Also make sure your OS patches and hotfixes are up to date. Specifically these -

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938194
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938979

Let me know if any of that helps...
