Have:
- G5 Logitech mouse
- SetPoint software set to override thumb button actions (http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/ikrz/8062eeb8.png)

Effect:
- pressing thumb button does nothing
- pressing the actual keyboard button assigned to the desired action works as expected

Am I missing something obvious here?

EDIT: game = FEAR2

Which game OP? You didn't say? Mouse support for FEAR2 was awful. So if it's FEAR2 you may not be able to. If F2, use search function. There was quite a lot, at the time about mouse support or lack thereof.

As for FEAR1 and expansions I would guess they should work. I still run with a 3 button mouse though so can't help you there.

Edit: I see FEAR2.

There is no MOUSE4 or MOUSE5 support in FEAR 2...at all. It sucks but unfortunately that's how it is.

Yes I have said FEAR2. And yes, I know that there is no support for thumb buttons in FEAR2. And yes I have used search, which suggested me do exactly what I am trying to do, i.e. use SetPoint software to emulate thumb button actions. Question is: why is it not working?

I'd assume that FEAR2 is grabbing the keypresses directly and not through the system. The same thing happens in BC2 for my middle thumb button which means I can't use mumble ;_;

Because FEAR2 was terribly ported and didn't take into consideration real life PC gamers and how some use the hell out of the millions of buttons on some modern day mice. Since they were fired off of FEAR3 and given a bone so their feeling wouldn't be hurt, I don't really expect them to finish patching FEAR2 to quality PC standards at this late date.

apparently SetPoint has its own issues (http://logitech.lithium.com/t5/Mice-Software/Setpoint-and-G9-Not-detecting-applications-being-run/td-p/177631/highlight/true)...

apparently SetPoint has its own issues (http://logitech.lithium.com/t5/Mice-Software/Setpoint-and-G9-Not-detecting-applications-being-run/td-p/177631/highlight/true)...I just use the stock MS drivers on my keyboard and mouse since I only have a 3 button mousy.
