Hi!
my config is the following:
Mobo: Asus M2N-MX
RAM: 2GB 800mhz ddr2
CPU: AMD Athlon X2 5600+ (that older version with 2.8ghz)
VGA: Radeon 4850 512mb

my mobo only supports PCI Express 1.1, so my card operates in that mode (PCI Express x16 1.1 according to GPUz)...so my question is, how much would i benefit if i would replace my mobo to a newer model which supports PCI Express 2.0. I know that the bandwidth is twice as high in 2.0, i just dont know if games would benefit from that.

Edit: one more question: there is a setting in my BIOS to overclock PCI Express channel from 100mhz till 150 mhz. I red that i shouldnt mess with that above 105 mhz, or else the system will be instable, some said that there is no performance incrase even on 150mhz...whats the truth? :)

Not sure you would benefit really, keep the cash and hold on for a full upgrade.

The bandwidth of PCI Express 1 really isn't being saturated yet, and the PCI-E 3 spec is already in the final stages of being finalized. I wouldn't worry about it.

Regarding playing with the bus frequency, don't mess with it.

If you are using a 32bit os not a lot really the sweet spot for Vista (Mid 2009) in gaming was 3gig but im sure many new titles will like more, if you are using a 64bit os the extra 2G will go along way!

I am on PCIE 16x (runs at4x) 1.0 on my sisters PC. she has a 5770, and a core 2 quad 6660, and it performs FINE. having PCIE2.0 only affects the 5970/gtx480 etc, and even then its only a 0.5/1fps difference.

That sound's about right there is a really good article about scaling found here with 4x 8x 16x pcie and a gtx480!
