Steam Free Weekend June 3-6

Starts 23:00 GMT Thursday 3 June (other time zones: http://bit.ly/coByIJ)
Ends 20:00 GMT Sunday 6 June (other time zones: http://bit.ly/bo9MSM)

We will be putting up a bunch of official servers mostly limited to new players but our resources are not limitless. You will be helping us greatly if you are able to host your own server to share the load. You can grab the dedicated server from the Tools tab in Steam or from the Shattered Horizon website (http://shatteredhorizon.com/media/shattered_horizon_dedicated_server_1.2.1.9.zip). The instructions for the server are in the Game Manual (http://shatteredhorizon.com/media/ShatteredHorizon_GameManual.pdf).

Like the last Moonrise event, the Firepower Free Weekend promises to be great fun, just remember to play nice with the new guys.

How exactly do you pre-load this game? There is no option anywhere on Steam that allows you to do so. I can't find anything at all. The game doesn't even appear in my games list even after restarting Steam.

It has received fixes for the bugs, if that's what you mean.

See FAQ (sticky post) for additional troubleshooting options for those who still have issues with it "out of the box" - I haven't heard of a single user who hasn't been able to get it to work after the latest patch, but for some you do need to force it not to filter servers by ping (FAQ has the info how to do it).

I was nearly unable to find any good ping server which is not full. It showed up only around 20 or so, most of them with pings above 150. This was one of the main reasons, I didn't bought the game. Maybe I'm just spoilt by TF2. :D

I will see if it got better this weekend. The game itself is much fun, but finding a server sometimes really took long.

Meh, but it's ok. I have 2 benchmarks of Win7 bookmarked that show superior performance in even DX9 games running on the same hardware compared to XP.

Did you region lock this Free Weekend? I got to Preload it yesterday and it was in my list, now its gone and you cannot preload it from anywhere..

Yup and still disappears if you choose to restart steam.

Yea, same problem here, the link makes it visible in your gamemenu again, but it's still locked, now nearing 2 hours after I was supposed to be fraggin ppl into spacejunk in beautiful vacuum… been looking forward to testing this all day *sigh*

Well, guess I'll see you all there whenever the right guys at steam/futuremark check their awesome digital wristwatches… ^^

Yeah, I didn't see a download link anywhere other than the annoying Steam Specials popup window. I chose to pre-load it yesterday when first I saw it, but haven't seen that same notice since then.

So, it looks like June 3-6 means June 4-6.
Steam time strikes again.

OK, closed Steam and re-opened it.
Shattered Horizon is in my library now, says "Pre-load" complete, but no option to play yet.

after ~8 hours restarted Steam and it re-appeared and there is PLAY button. at last.

yep - restart steam and the pre-load will show as "play" rather than "purchase"

As usual, when game moves from "preload" to "free weekend" mode, you often have to restart Steam to actually see it. Steam limitation.

Same will be true when free weekend ends - it will probably show up as available for play even after the free weekend ends, until you restart Steam.

Allright, after I played some rounds(and always got first after some seconds :D), I can say: My serverbrowser issue is not there anymore, but it seems like the performance got worse. Additionally, the new grenade system sometimes let me fire grenades, I didn't want to fire, because I couldn't see the grenade name on my weapon in the corner of my eye. Instead, I always have to look down in the middle of a firefight.

However, I don't even think all this belongs to this thread. Maybe I'll open an seperate one.

This game really needs a tutorial/bots for new players to start with, to deal with the controls. And more Asian servers, 250 ping at minimum for me.

I did the pre-load and started up the game and it did first time setup stuff and then it tried to launch then it game me an error and said a .exe file wasnt working, I tried it again by redownloading it but it still had the same issue. Can someone please let me know if you know how to fix it.
