Please help me with fear!!

At a certain point during a single player mission a message comes up saying invalid game assets and at that point I can not go any further into the game and in multiplayer when I try to join a game it freezes in the loading screen and never loads. please help I don't want to re install the game because its 17gb.
oh and I ran game cache verify and nothing worked.

my pc: amd phenom x4 9950 quad, 6gb ddr2, gts 250

The only thing i can say is update your drivers or check if the drivers are having conflicts with fear. It's an old game, sometimes newer driver make old games act weird. I don't see why you would be getting problems like this though.

Maybe it's an nvidia issue?

My Phenom II 940 and GTX260 runs the game just fine. What you may want to try is to move your "steamapps" folder to another spot on your hard drive, then uninstall and reinstall Steam. Then all you have to do is copy that folder back over. If verifying didn't find anything wrong with the game files, then it's Steam itself.
