got it from a friend of mine who loved it. and as far as i see pretty much everyone loves DMC4.
not me.
this game is putting me to sleep! seriously, i love slashers, but this game is BOOOOORING. so far ive completed 4 levels and its either been too easy or too frustrating (like with these things you have to motorize with your sword and push around with your demon arm)
the characters are so cocky and their lines are so cheesy that its almost embarrassing. the enemies are stupid and monotonous. i hate seeing these made-of-cloth-clowns or whatever they are called on every step. i have no fun killing them. in fact, i have no fun killing anyone. and yes, i execute combos and cool moves, but they just dont feel satisfying.
i dunno, maybe its due to the fact that i dont like anime and im a HUGE fan of God of War which made me used to seeing dismembered enemy bodies in pools of their own blood, but there must be SOMETHING i could like about DMC...
my question is - is the game gonna be any different as it progresses or is it just the same gameplay but with evolving enemies and new combos unlocked?

God of War is button mashy. DMC is about the gameplay, stylin' and profilin'. I find the fighting vastly superior to GoW and NG (only played the first of each though). You'll get to use another character later, who plays differently.
I believe the general consensus is that DMC3 is a much better and harder game. Not the PC version though. Crappy port by whoever Ubi contracted.
As always, to each their own.

so far i haven't encountered a single trick by Nero that wasn't done by Kratos. God of War CAN be just button mashing, unless you decide to play it in style. launching enemies into the air? check. beating them up midair and holding them there? check. spinning them around and throwing them damaging the others? check. etc etc.
of course, both Dante and Nero may have more combos to execute, but as i said - its just not satisfying to look at them.
another issue is the enemies. i have stated that casuals are irritating and boring, but this game also has the ability to take awesome looking huge bosses and turn them into a complete joke in a fight. the first boss encounter with Berial really disappointed me. when i saw him in trailers i was like 'WOAH!!! that is one bad motherf***er!'
until i fought him myself that is... i know DMC tries hard to make the lead character look cool, but making the enemies weak is not the correct way.
returning to God of War comparison - try fighting the Colossus on Titan. he will hand your a$$ to you on a plate roasted and crunchy. which only adds to the satisfaction when you do defeat him.
maybe i really have to try DMC3. whats bad about the port? if its the controls, im ok because i have a gamepad. if its anything else i might get the PS2 one. just have to wipe the dust off it :)

Oh! Oh! I know what it is! I know what you're doing wrong!
You're playing DMC4. That's what's wrong.

Personally I think God of War's combat is way too loose and button mashy. DMC4 is pretty easy compared to the other games in the series, but maybe you're playing on easy mode ("Human") anyways. If you don't like it that's that I guess, sorry you're out $30 or however much you spent.

well, like i said my frined gave it to me so i didnt spend anything
the thing about the combat system in slashers is that personally for me what combos look like on the screen is more important than how i execute them. GoW's combos may be alot easier but they are brutal and rewarding.
in DMC they look like ballet dancing to me.
or maybe im just a blood thirsty maniac
guess thats why i always preferred Mortal Kombat to Street Fighter :)

Well yeah that's kind of the point of DMC. You dont have a block button so the idea is to dance around your enemies and execute stylish combos when you have an opening. If you do press on with the game you can unlock some pretty cool Nero sword combos, and later Dante gets a pair of gauntlets that let you do the brutal straightforward combat you seem to prefer. But there's no blood or guts, ever. Sorry.
