Crash When Launching

So I just installed Evil Genius, and whenever I go to launch it, the splash screen pops up, and a couple seconds later I get a crash message. When I try to verify the game cache I get a message saying that one file could not verify, and that it will be redownloaded, which apparently works correctly since I then get the "Evil Genius is done downloading" message and further verification turns up no problems. However, launching simple produces another crash and the file goes bad again. I'm running Windows 7 on a computer that tears the system requirements to shreds and has run this game before perfectly.

Naturally, any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem. Restarted steam and the game updated itself. Now it launches. i also did the cache check and defragment before i restarted steam dunno if it helps though.

I had a crash problem after I changed my video settings ingame.
And no way to change it via .ini or so afterwards without a crash.
I had to uninstall, remove the directory of evil genius and reinstall until it worked again.

But perhaps Evil Genius writes somewhere a log, so you can tell us more ?
