I know that there are alot of people on these forums that are new to the game and I welcome you with open arms to the best fantasy sandbox experience that there is available. Nothing compares to Oblivion in scope or appearance or in modability.

Below, you will find a list of all the mods that I am using currently and their load order. In the post following that, I will show you three pictures taken from the front gate of Chorrol to show you what effect it has on its appearance.

Picture 1: (http://i744.photobucket.com/albums/xx82/carldana/ChorrolbyDay.jpg) This is Chorrol at about 5pm game time. As you can see...its very different from the stock game and looks far more lush and lived in.

Picture 2: (http://i744.photobucket.com/albums/xx82/carldana/ChorrolbyEvening.jpg) This is Chorrol early evening as the sun is almost set, note the lighting in the windows.

Picture 3: (http://i744.photobucket.com/albums/xx82/carldana/ChorrolbyNight.jpg) And this is Chorrol at night. The windows are illuminated as you can see and make the town feel lived in rather than the buildings being just props.

I reserved this spot for telling you all how to go about getting this result from your Oblivion Game. Follow the instructions below and you should see the same result:

Step 1> Download and install OBMM (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=2097)

Step 2> Download and install BOSS (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20516). DO NOT FORGET to download and install the Masterlist update that is available.

Step 3> Download and install The Unofficial Patch (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296), The Unofficial Patch Supplement (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27710), The Shivering Isles Patch (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10739) and The Unofficial MODs Patch (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9969).

Step 4> This step will add a new land for you to explore. Download and install Elsweyr the Deserts of Anequina (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25023), Arabian Music for Elsweyr Anequina (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=29467), Coloured World Map (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25150). With the Elsweyr main file, dont forget to download the Optional Files and the Silent MP3 files.

Step 5> Run BOSS and start the game. If you get to the start menu happily, then exit and continue.

Step 6> Download and install Alternate Start Revamped (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3973).

Step 7> Download and install Natural Environments (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=13207) and Alive Waters (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6914).

Step 8> Exit OBMM, run BOSS and then make sure the game wont crash before menu. If everything is okay...return to installing Mods.

Step 9> Here is one of the best MODs created for Oblivion. Download and install the Unique Landscapes Complete (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=19370)!!

Step 10> Exit OBMM, BOSS, make sure you can get to main game menu. Exit, move on.

Step 11> Download Improved Trees and Flora (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11891).

Step 11a> Download and install Illumination Within Revived (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4955).

Step 12> This is the big step that will make your towns look good. Download and install Better Cities (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=16513). Follow the instructions for installing provided. You will need 7zip as the Resources Files are in a double archive.

Step 13> Exit OBMM, BOSS, test and if everything is okay...continue with the final step.

Step 14> Download and install Qarls Texture Pack (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=18498).

That should be it. I will update this as I get more added to my game so that you can enjoy the rich goodness that is Oblivion...

PS, can I get a sticky on this please? Thanks!!

Anyway you can show a before and after picture?
Looks very promising!!

camartin001

Cant really get you a before picture, it would take hours to remove all the mods and would likely break the game to the point of needing a reinstall. But, trust me, if you go to Chorrol in your unmodded version, enter the main get and stand there looking into the town, that is where I took the pictures from with my back to the gate.

HERE (http://www.alquier.org/TES/images/Oblivion/chorrol-vanilla-ps3.jpg) is a before picture of a street in Chorrol. And HERE (http://i744.photobucket.com/albums/xx82/carldana/After.jpg) is an after picture so you can see the difference.

As you can see, the better cities mod completely changes them and alters their layout as well as adding more...plantlife.

Could you please maybe post a tutorial / walk through of how to replicate your collection ?

Maybe like what order, etc ?

It looks more awesome than the last gfx overhaul I did long ago

Hello camartin, your screenshots look awesome but all this is a bit pointless without providing a guide how to recreate this look. Give us some help please ;)

Okay, updated the thread, the third post is now a step by step guide on how to get those results. If you have any problems, post with the step you are on and what the issue is and I will try my best to get you some help.

No...you dont have to, but it does offer some interesting starting options as well as the vanilla you start as a prisoner option. Entirely up to you. :D

If you can give me a few hours, I will put up a thread that will explain the complicated procedure of installing FCOM and its related game alterations. They basically make it a whole new gaming experience.

Well, Oblivion is fairly resource hungry as it is. Fallout 3 runs better because they have had time to work on it. The best thing is install a bit at a time and see how it affects the performance on your Game. Im not too familiar with ATI cards, but from the sounds of it its middling to high end.

I can run all those mods with and FPS of around 20 with all details up and hardware forced AAA at x16 and Im on a 9800GTX+ with 4GB of RAM and a 5200+ Dual Core

Umm....I can't get anything to install.

When I install OBMM, it asks me where to put it. It always comes up saying 'Oblivion Mod Manager must be installed into Oblivion's installation directory.' Where is that exactly? :O

Trogad0r point it to the steam install directory. If that doesn't work make sure you launch oblivion one time before installing the mod manager.

One more question, will I be able to run those texture packs? Here are my specs:

ATI Mobility Radeon 2600 XT
2GB RAM
2.4Ghz Dual Processor

I dont know ATIs too well, but, your RAM could be a problem with Qarls full texture pack. But, if you look you can get Qarls Texture pack 3 Redimized, reduced or Redimized AND Reduced.

Ok, I think I'll give the 'reduced' a go. Thanks! :D

Step 3> Download and install The Unofficial Patch (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296), The Unofficial Patch Supplement (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=27710), The Shivering Isles Patch (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10739) and The Unofficial MODs Patch (http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9969).

Just in case someone anyone else has trouble installing "The Unofficial MODs Patch" - specifically, an Exception within the LOD4 tool (DLCThievesDen - Unofficial Patch - SSSB.esp taking mod priority over DLCThievesDen.esp).

I was able to get around this by modifying the file creation/modification date of Oblivion.esp to something before November 2008 then re-running BOSS.bat.

Could you possibly do a tutorial on the intsallation of the Better Cities mod? I'm trying to follow the one the author has provided and I'm really confused.

I certainly can. I know its a little confusing. FIRST, download and install 7Zip.

Next, make a folder somewhere called Better Cities and pull all the Better cities archives in there. This means the Better cities main archive and the two resource archives.

Next, use winrar to unzip both resource archives, then delete the Winrar resource archives, but dont delete the files that you just extracted.

Next, right click on part one of the two files you just extracted and go to 7zip > Extract Here. This will give you a single Winrar Archive when its all finished.

Next, open OBMM, click create OMOD, click add Archive and add the better cities archive first, it will throw up two pop up boxes at you, click yes for both of these...then click create omod. It will take a long time, so go make a cup of tea. When you come back you will have a better cities OMOD in your list in OBMM.

Finally, create ANOTHER OMOD, add the Better Cities Resources archive and click create OMOD. Again you will get two pop up windows, click yes to both of these and go make another brew.

I dont know why the author of the mod made a triple archive, its just confusing and a pain in the butt. But if you follow those steps it should work. Just be prepared to wait a while as you are creating the OMODS, each step can take several minutes and it may look like OBMM stops responding, but be patient.

Perfect. Worked a charm. That's me now finished your complete guide (sounds and gameplay too, I'm looking forward to the body and skin part :D) and now my game is looking better than ever. You sir, deserve a medal, but I think some rep will have to suffice. :3

Thanks again! =D

It's been a while since I set it up but I think it was a modified version of QTP3 by Qarl and someone else.
