View Full Version : What are your hopes/anticipations for Dead Space 2?

First, I hope they give this game a major difficulty buff. The main reason this game isn't scary is because it is easy as hell and the scares are cheap. They should make the horror more "silent Hill-ish get into your head" type horror. Making the player underpowered like the silent hill games would help make it scarier too.

Also, I'm psyched to know that Iasic is an actual "character" with dialogue, ect. this time around, and not just another mute go-there-and-do-this-and-that pushover.

I shouldn't steal the show completely here, so Ill leave the threadgoers to voice their anticipations for the upcoming Dead Space 2.

Yea i hope they destroy the extreme use of go-there-and-do-this-and-that which made the game real repetitive after a while. Obviously new monsters and hopefully a better storyline. Also i hope the brightness option will go darker. Put the game to lowest brightness and was still pretty bright.

i just want to keep on the formula and extend on it
i would also like to see
-more suits, with big differences between them
-new useful and creative weapons
-out of the ship battles (which i think i've already seen in a trailer)
-possibly an arcade mode, something like survival (survive waves of necromorphs until the last stand); and this would also give the game another game mode, instead of the single player only
and i think that's it
god give developers inspiration

Co-op campaign would be incredible for Dead Space 2, kind of like it was with Resident Evil 5. Where you had to help each other out in certain situations.

Like in one part in RE5 you had one person holding a large flood light as you went through a pitch black cave. Only the person not holding the light could shoot and you had to direct them where to point it.

Proper coding is all I ask for. Being able to play the game without a spinning camera would be nice.

Definitely needs to be darker. The first game was too bright for most of it. I want areas where my only light is from the targeting lasers on my weapon.
Also needs to be more difficult. Less ammo, and don't have every shot stun the enemies. Or maybe just have them stumble towards your character and not stunned completely. That made it way too easy.

That they also bring Extraction to the PC with it, since they're doing that PS3 move deal.

Heh.

I agree with the difficulty the most. I just bought this a week ago and while its an awesome game, the enemies are not at all that challenging. Im still on my first run with the highest difficulty and ive managed to breeze through some chapters with only taking a hit or two from the necros. Ammo hasn't been much of a problem either, I always have more than enough.

I'll go with game needs to be darker, not Doom3 darker though. Proper in game AA and vsync.

Oh yes! Co-op campaign would be awesome.

What is this "spinning camera" some people talk about? I have played this game through twice and have never experienced even the slightest issue with the interface.

-Achievement tracking a la Steamworks or in-game like Mass Effect.

-More unlockables a la Resident Evil 4/5

-A Mercenaries or Horde mode

-Melee weapons like the laser saw from Downfall, more varieties of melee attacks

-Grenades!

-Quick-save feature

-Being able to carry over items on new playthroughs on a different difficulty level

-Some form of mod-ability, maybe at least DLC options for PC folks

-More psychological type horror scares

-This goes along with more melee, but the ability to perform "finishers" a la Resident Evil 4/5 or Gears of War 2.

I'm torn about the ability to jump or climb stuff. It doesn't seem like the gameplay or AI mechanics would allow it in it's current iteration, as the Necros for the most part ignore you if you're standing on a different plane or beyond the threshold of a different room, with the only exception being zero-g.

I also would like the objectives to be more specific. It took me a long time to figure out how to put the beacon on the asteroid the first time around because I didn't know you could go outside of the ship.

-Better mouse support than the first
-Hardest difficulty should be very hard (remember that the game is developed for consoles and then ported over. Aiming is harder on the consoles so game difficulty is lessened)
-Would like steamworks but don't expect it
-Some more music

- Infinite enemy respawns, more frequent the less you move, and the more time time passes without you killing something. Sit on a spot, and they come for you in 2 minutes.
- More variety in monsters, making different weapons more effective or even usless against them. You can beat this game entirely with one gun.
- BEtter and more movility. Mass Effect kind of movility sucks. If a box is not taller than you, you can climb on it always, not only it's coded so you can 'use it' to get on top of it.
- Free roam instead fully-level based. The accessible areas 'lock' on missions (like in Assassin's Creed), but until a mission starts or ends, you can go anywhere and even kill monsters again, like in Borderlands.
- New Game+ keeping the schematics and all owned gear, instead getting just an armor schematic, and having to get the rest of the schematics anyways.
- Steam Achievements. Not really necessary, but always a nice bonus.
- Co-op.
- Versus.
- Cookies. All good games have cookies.

I don't notice any tearing or bad fps while vsync is turned off in DS1. However, in-game mouse movement and camera controls is $h*tty. I can't take full advantage of the "movements" compared to the 360 controller. For example, I find it very hard to make a 90 or 360 degree turn while running. Also the aiming is not very good. The movement is there but it's very slow. The slow movements and camera controls just make the player look disabled.

To be honest, I bought DS1 for the PC because I wanted to play it with a mouse + keyboard but so far it's not working so well. Playing DS1 with a 360 controller on the PC works just fine. (pure pwnage).

I just hope they fix the mouse movement and camera controls for the PC port in DS2. Oh yea and also they should go into detail and have a straightfoward storyline this time because in DS1, the story was a bit confusing. I had to go into wikipedia and google to find out and understand the missing pieces of the story.
