I was thinking of playing this game, but i was wondering how scary is this game? Is it scarier than Doom 3? Penumbra?

It's a little creepy in the beginning with all the scripted things like lights going out and noises etc. but after the 2nd chapter the only thing that will occasionally make you jump is the necros busting out of vents but it's not like you're ♥♥♥♥ting your pants unable to proceed.

From what I hear, Penumbra is significantly scarier. Never played the game myself though.

I loved Penumbra but kept getting stuck. It was more a psychological scare than anything else.

Dead Space freaked the crap out of me for the first few chapters but halfway through it's more predictable and less jumpy, it's also around there that it starts to focus more heavily on the plot aswell as the whole deal with Nicole. Still a good game which really helps create momentum for finishing the game after a certain point and not being so freaked out that you put the game down after every save point and come back a week later. :>

The controls are a bit awkward on the PC which adds to the freakiness of the game. For instance a monster could jump out from behind you and it would, literally, take you three seconds to turn in that direction with mouse sensitivity turned up all the way.

Still, really good game and well worth the money. Having said that you should wait for the EA week long sale and see if DS comes up.

Sounds just like doom 3. In the beginning its quite scary, later on its just the same things happening and you get 1337 weapons that pwns everything.

Play it, its a damn experience, a lot of different scaryness (there's not much enemies at all). Start with Penumbra: Overture, its not as scary as the sequel, black plague.

Yeah, i know what you mean. I was stuck in one place for 40 minutes, and i refused to give up and at the end there was something obvious :p And the sounds are actually the only thing that's scary.

Yeah, I heard about that, hopefully DS2 wont be as awkward.

I'll keep my eyes open ;)
