So I have a 64-bit OS, and I was expecting Steam to detect that and know which binary to launch. However, using the in-game console I found that Steam was launching the 32-bit version of Crysis: Warhead. Why is this? And how can I prevent this in the future with other games as well? I assume the 64-bit version is definitely what I want to be using.
Thanks.

go to steam, add game to library, and add the .exe
Reason for it is because steam just chooses a genereic ".exe" file and doesn't distinguish between a launcher, a different version, and so on. I had issues with mass effect because it wouldn't lauch the game properly.

So there's no way that Steam knows whether to use the 64-bit versus 32-bit? Every game with two versions we will have to manually add the game?

what is the difference when running a game in 64 bit or 32 bit versions? I have a 64 bit OS.

Is this likely to fix the crashes I keep getting on the carrier level or should I just launch in direct x9 ?

Steam does not provide 64 bit crysis. It doesn't matter anyways. Benchmarks have shown there isn't any performance difference on 64 bit vs 32 bit.
There is a workaround posted somewhere here on the forums for 64 bit and I have tried it. No performance difference on 64 bit for me. The benchmarks don't lie
DaDaDan, I had to use dx9 for the carrier crash also. not sure if 64 bit would help. pretty sure its just a bug

He was referring to Crysis:Warhead. And yes, the 64bit binary comes with Steam and is in the folder. It just refuses to automatically run it from the games launcher menu. I have to start it manually with a shortcut.
I plan on trying the advice above and adding it as a seperate game manually and run the launcher from there if it works.

go to the bin64 which is in your game directory folder and launch crysis64.exe from there to get 64 bit.
