View Full Version : Flickering Red Spots?

Whenever I'm indoors there are these weird flickering red spots with no pattern to them.

I haven't really read enough in-game or out to know if this is some sort of in-game phenomena like a spell etc. And the only thing i've found on Google remotely like this is here http://au.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/theelderscrollsivoblivion/show_msgs.php?topic_id=m-1-42525744&pid=924363 the dots are similar but this is outdoors. Normally I can find people with the same issues straight away but it seems like it's just me :)

It really seems more like a graphical issue than an in-game thing. It is getting bearable but I'd prefer it not to be bearable, I'd prefer they weren't there.

Help!?

Im running Windows 7 64-bit, ATI Radeon 4870 1GB, completely vanilla Oblivion with no mods (just bought the full deluxe with exps version during the last sale)

I'd install these, i have and can wholeheartedly recommend them. I can assure you these are practically mandatory.

Unofficial Oblivion Patch (I skipped the supplement)

Unofficial Shivering Isles Patch
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10739

Still an issue you can try these, i did not install these and have never noticed a need too, yet.

Unofficial Oblivion Patch Supplemental

Unofficial Official Mods Patch

Yeah thanks I think I will. I was thinking the mods were mainly for making the game prettier but maybe i've stumbled on a rare bug that these might fix.

Are you able to give us a screenshot? My wife has the 5850 and doesn't get any red spots in the game.

The two links are not really mods, they are bug fix's. My son was showing me a problem he encountered where the screen would black out and he could not complete a quest, we installed the first patch and the bug was gone. Plus the game seems much more stable with them.

Hey so I've had this same problem with Oblivion. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and reinstalled Oblivion, then the last official patch, then the unofficial patch, then a couple of mods. It seems the spots start showing up when I'm out in the wilderness. I don't really notice them for the most part indoors or in dungeons. I know I'm late to this thread, but as stated above, I haven't really found anything about this anywhere else, either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is also the possibility that these are "anomolies" created due to your GPU being overly strained/about to die. When in an area that does this, take a look at your GPU's temps and see if they are near or exceeding the given models maximum threshold.

Well patches are not mods.

Mods can be visual enhancements, audio enhancements, complete new quests, overhauls of the game system, etc.

Your first mistake is to install anything other than patches before installing mods to ask for help. You may have mods conflicting if you are new, haven't read about proper load order, how to install properly, etc.
