No matter what I do, I can't get Indigo Prophecy to run on my Vista Home Basic laptop. The laptop itself meets the minimum requirements for the game.
Everytime I try to start it, the game immediately crashes and says that ''Indigo Prophecy.exe has stopped working''
If anyone could help me out I would very much appreciate it.
Here's the laptop's specs:
AMD Athlon Processor 2650e 1.6 GHz
3GB RAM
Windows Vista Home Basic
ATI Radeon X1200
I know the laptop isn't very impressive specs wise, but according to the minimum specs for the game it should run.
Thanks again.

It's copy-protection's never been meant to run on Vista or Win7.
Check the requirements: Windows® 2000/XP
You can't even install it from a DVD, as the installer itself uses the same outdated copy-protection as the final runtime.
It'll never run, period.

This doesn't explain how other Vista and 7 users have been able to get the game running fine through Steam.
Also, shouldn't the copy protection technically not be there for the Steam version?

It runs perfectly fine for me on Windows 7.

Some Steam versons are known to sport 3rd party copy protection, donnu about indigo.
The requirements argument still stands: Windows® 2000/XP
Windows 7 is not officially supported, as such you can't expect support.

Ok, now I've got a new problem. Now I can sometimes run the game, but only when the computer feels like it. I can play it for 2-3 hours straight no problem but then it won't let me open it again until it feels like it.
Anyone have an idea as to why this is happening?

I'm having the exact same problem. I tried to figure it out for a few hours last night and I've heard from multiple sources that most people can play it on Vista fine, as long as it's through Steam. I have yet to get it to run, when I try to start it, it shows up with an empty window in the background then a pop-up about Indigo Prophecy.exe has stopped running.
It sucks, I'd really like to play this >_<

try finding the executive (launcher) for the game in the steam folder and try to run it as admin or run in compat mode for xp perhaps ?

I get a black screen while I hear sound, it skoots all my desktop and icons in a pile on the second monitor and picture never shows up... I have Win 7 64bit
If I change .exe file to run in compatibility mode, it puts steam in a looping mode where UAC asks me whether I want to allow the program to access whatever, and when I say yes (or no, doesn't matter) it goes back to starting it from steam and everything repeats all over again forever (hitting esc constantly helps to get out eventually). Unchecking compatibility mode in .exe puts everything back to "normal" start with sound and black (blank) screen...

kk, never mind, alt+enter gets the game out of full mode into a tiny little bitty window, like 3"x3", but at least there is a picture... in options there is a way changing resolution, but no wide screen res., but that's kk, I reckon...
