Hey guys, when I downloaded the game the last day, my anti-vir program identified the dvm.dll, which is obviously a important file because without it the game does not work, as a trojan (TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen). Is it harmless and my antivir just was too cautious? Did any of you guys had the same problem I do?
Thanks already for your help :-)

It's just a false positive. They happen. You get those from time to time. Better safe than sorry. Just tell your A/V to ignore it. As long as you know what you are downloading then it's not a problem. Especially from Steam. I have this problem a lot with some of my old win98 games. Not too often though with the newer ones though;)

i hope you are right :-P. i have read in the internet that people who have a cracked version of the game have the same problem because the crack is a virus or sth. well, thanks again ^^. it would be nice if somebody else would tell me the same. thanks already ^^.

I can understand you nervousness and desire for conformation by another person but I have never gotten a virus from Steam. As long as you have a valid legally purchased copy from Steam it isn't a virus. If you are using a illegal copy then that would be entirely different. Older games tend to get flagged as viruses by some A/V's because of how they work, was the way it was explained to me.

It's good you are cautious. if it were me I'd let it go but it's your rig and you have to make those decisions not I. Hopefully someone else will pop in to confirm what I have said.

thanks maddogge, i in fact let it go :-). i was just cautious because this trojan (TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen) is one of the bad ones which is not that easy to get rid of compleatly. i could not believe it either that steam would sell a virus to me but i still had my doubts. thanks for you help :-)

I get really nevious too when that happens but I'd much rather a false positive than something getting through. i'm kinda disappointed that no one else popped on though. Guess everyone is on the sales threads either clapping with joy with the offerings or crying from frustration over nothing interesting to them. Enjoy your game.

Sorry for the thread necro but I've encountered a similar or even the same problem.

When trying to launch Riddick my Virus software(GData) recognises a Trojan
(Virus: Gen:Trojan.Heur2.BDT.2qW@ameEvTbiGd (Engine A)).

Since the game uses DRM I also assumed it's a false positive and the DRM is regognised as the Trojan. I was wondering, though since apparently there aren't many mentions of said false positive.

Anyways - as expected when I refuse to start the game the launcher complains about too few user rights for the first startup.

I'd be calmer if I'd knew there are more people having recognised the games as a false positive. So if you are one of them - plese make yousef heared, here. :)
