I just bought the Guild 2 and Pirates of the European Seas. It's a fun game, but there are a couple of problems. The video's don't seem to play, just giving me a black screen with audio during the intro and tutorial vid. Also some of the speech related to council meetings is in German, even though everything else is English.
I'd appreciate any help you could offer.

Yah I noticed the German speak, too. Looks like they ran out of time and couldn't localize the last 1% of the game! Lol. If it were just an incorrect pointer, I'd think they would have patched it already, so it's probably not fixable by modding.
I don't know what to say about your vids though. Are you on the latest version of WM player and DivX? I wonder if maybe you just need a windows codec or something.

Thanks for the reply. I think you're right about the localization, I just noticed that it's fixed in the expansion, but seems to have a different voice actor to the rest of the speech. It must have somehow slipped by unnoticed until after release.
As for the videos, it's not the codec that's the problem. I've just managed to get them to play by using alt-tab a couple of times. It's hardly a major problem, but still seems odd.
I had the same problem, are you running it on Win 7? Try compatibility mode settings.

Videos totally black, sound is good though.
Win Vista x64; I will try the compatibility mode.
edit1: compatibility mode tried as well as disabling aero, still black...

this usually happens when you have the DPI setting set to anything higher than 100% (default setting) and you are trying to view xvid files commonly used in this and other games like oblivion. I would check to see if you have the DPI set to 150% or 200% if so then change it back to 100% and launch the game again

I don't think that's the problem in my case, my DPI has never been changed from the factory setting of 100% and I can view the Oblivion cinematic's without problem.
Ok, my Steam is set to download english games by default, however I wanted the guild in german so I switched it in the options and now the text is german but most of the audio is still english.
Will I have to redownload to fix this?
(I think questions fits quiet good in here)
