$3.74 for the Max Payne bundle and $5 for Torchlight. And I'll probably buy Unreal Tournament 2004 soon.

I would have spent a lot more, but most of the 'next-gen' games released after around 2005 or 2006 like Resident Evil 5 I can't play on my computer, even though I'm interested in them.

None, I missed everything, I was completely taken by surprise just like last year's holiday sale, I had no funds in my PayPal account, I didn't add any funds "in advance" because, that's the point, I wasn't prepared for the sales, there were no warnings, no hints, pure silence, and it takes PayPal eight days (yes, eight days) before any amounts of funds gets transferred from my bank account.

Thanks again, Valve, for giving no information in advance so that at least some people like me could prepare one or two weeks before it happens and save up some money to buy the games, yup, much appreciated. And guess what? I'm ready to bet that if I do add funds "just in case" for this year's holidays that in the end there won't be a second Steam holiday sales for this year, just because I'm lucky like that.

Life is good, indeed.

That's really all your fault... If you don't have a credit card or debit card then that's tough ♥♥♥♥. I love how you seemingly pass the blame to Valve rofl.

Pass the blame on them? Hardly, I'm not alone in the same boat, I just speak out loud for [perhaps the minority] of people concerned by this situation, of course at the risk of passing for someone whose in turn passing blames on Valve. It's not "blaming" per se, I'm basically wondering why we consumers never get a single warning when major sales like that are about to occur.

And, ultimately, it's not about me not having a credit card, it's about Valve not announcing in advance what's going to happen. If Valve could say « Summer Sales in two weeks! Prepare yourselves! » without revealing the concerned games and the actual deals then I would have had the time to indeed prepare myself, save up money, let the transactions be done over at PayPal and, voila, when the sales start guess what? Yup, I got the money, and I buy games, pretty simple.

But, no, things aren't simple, better when it's not.

0.75€ in Aliens versus Predator Classic 2000. Since I have very little money to spend I'm waiting to see if any of the games I really want appear in the day deals with a low enough price...

Zero so far.

I'm waiting for:
Mount & Blade: Warband (seems like a fun and unique multiplayer game)
Global Agenda (MMO where they ended the monthly subscription model, you just pay one time for the game)

I know they already have a discount each (50% and 33% respectively and that's already awesome) until July 4th, but I'm waiting until the last day because they might appear in a daily sale even cheaper, you never know.

But I will definitely buy those, at most they'll cost me a total 35€.

Cats are awesome! More awesome than games, dare I say!

I fully agree, but I refuse to get them when I know I won't be able to pay for the vet if they get seriously ill or require special treatments/food for extended time.

I come from a home where we had anywhere between 5 and 16(!) cats during my childhood , I want to grow old with cats, I absolutely adore them.

There's this AWESOME loving cat just down the road here. He's limp and always hanging out by the Tai restaurant. And he's SO affectionate! You can just see the love in his eyes when he sees you coming (I almost always lose 5-10 mins on my way past there).
However, my point, The owners spend loads of cash on him after he had an accident even though the vet thought it might be best to euthanise him. But he's limping along happy every single day. I want to be able to take care of my cats when something happens, and I refuse to take them before I can :(

(!): slight mishap with 2 litters, awesome as a young child though xD)

Edit: Sorry for the offtopic xD

Its a sale, only some organizations give advance notice to sales, and since this is a long running sale it is unlikely.

Furthermore its still not valves fault, if anything you should blame paypal, but besides that get a credit card or load your paypal account with some amount of money so you are ready for the random valve sales.

People like you and the other poster like to blame everyone else for not being prepared. What a sad society we live in !

What's the situation? Using paypal without a linked CC/bank account? Sounds like a PITA really and folks would be better off just getting a CC of some sort.

Of course they're not going to announce a sale like this. Everyone will clam up and hold purchases until then.

I'm fairly certain I've gotten about $100+ (U.S.) logged into these games. But that's probably because I bought King Arthur: The Role-Playing Wargame, which was like $30.

Haha.

And I bought it earlier as part of a package deal Neocore Complete Pack for like $18.70 USD, which is cheaper, inclusive of the 2 DLC and Crusaders Thy Kingdom Come. :)

$14ish so far on Winterbottom, Thief, Borderlands Knoxx DLC, and Red Faction. Planning on buying Avencast but for some dumb reason I convinced myself to wait to see if it gets even cheaper which it probably won't. Then there's a couple other titles I'll get if they are cheaper like Global Agenda, Sol Survivor, Nation Red, and Machinarium.

In total I probably won't go over $25ish -- not because I have a budget but because I'm picky about deals.

If Valve made that announcement, they'd have two weeks of zero sales. Who in their right mind would buy a game when it might possibly be 50% off soon?

Here's a suggestion: every week, throw a small amount of money into that Paypal account. Do that consistently, and within a couple months you'll have game-buying money ready for any sales that may occur. There are 25 Fridays left between now and Christmas Eve; transferring $4 a week will give you $100 in your account when the post-Christmas sales start.

Dont forget a couple of games go on sale each week too. It's hard to keep up with at times, everyone is bound to miss a sale they want now and then.

Just pick a cat off a shelter? Even if you don't have money for any fancy treatments, you are still giving him a much better life than he would have otherwise.

Oh and to be on topic: So far only 5.74 dollars. On Killing Floor and Madballs in Babo. Would spend a lot more if more games were available for Mac.

Do you know the whole thing about consumer expectations? If people expect lower prices on a product, demand would go way down, and that would not help the supplier. So yea, they wouldn't do that.

"I butchered my aunt and buried my uncle. Hasn't been a day I don't regret it."

"I spent all my allowance in one week buying video games on Steam. I kept telling myself it wasn't my fault. So what if I spend money I don't have? It was only $5 (per game) Instead I blamed it all on Steam and their evil marketing schemes."

You need to realize you have a spending problem when you feel guilty about what you bought. "Should hold me up till Christmas"...

Spent around £30.49. I'm trying not to spend more than £5 on a game with the only exception I made with Bioshock2 (£10) because that was too good of a deal to pass :)

I'm thinking of buying Day of Defeat: Source for £1.49.

I'm also considering Borderlands but that is over the £5 I am willing to spend. Also I don't think I'm going to have a chance to play it anytime soon with all the other games I have bought, so by the time I do get a chance it may probably be cheaper :D

Judging from the types of games you have on that list, I'd say you should also add the following:

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident
Sword of the Stars Complete
Space Rangers 2
Space Empires Pack

Thanks for the recommendations.
From these games Nexus The Jupirter Incident looks the most interesting to me. Looks like Homeworld, does it feel like it as well? I really loved homeworld, but it doesn't run too well on modern hardware.
But anyway, it's not on sale, so I might wait a bit.

Space Rangers 2 got a really bad score from the magazine i trust the most. The metacritics average is much better, so I'll read about it a bit.

I think I just finished my final buys for the sale now, and I am around $300.

But then it increased my game count by about 60+ games for $300 isn't so bad.

Best Deals:

THQ Pack, 20 games for $50
Meridian4 pack, 20 games for $20

BEST gem game found so far:

Tank Universal for $2.49, its worth the full price of $10 though.

If you loved the movie Tron, you will love this game. I rank it as one of my instant classics and its only $2.49 right now.

Space Rangers 2 is Star Control 2 + Port Royale 2. Furthermore, since you have The Guild 2 on there... Well, it takes a certain type of personality to enjoy simulating the life of a 14th century European peasant. So I deduced that you possess that peculiar personality necessary to enjoy it.

And I never played Homeworld, but I was taking a ♥♥♥♥ and reading an issue of PC Gamer from 1997, when I read a review for "Imperium Galactica", and decided I wanted a copy. But after a short wiki-walk, I found Nexus: The Jupiter project referred to as "the spiritual successor to Imperium Galactica". Both Hungarian games, incidentally. And then, Steam happened to have it. So I took those coincidences as an omen, and grabbed it.

Doesn't have any of the base management aspect I was hoping for, ala Galactic Civilizations or Space Empires, but the visuals in Nexus are just fan-♥♥♥♥ing-TASTIC, and I can't get over how great the vocal acting is. And from an eastern european game, no less!
