Hello Void technicians.
I am experiencing a problem with my newly bought steam copy of The Void. I installed this AGEIA PhysX programme (the correct version, I believe) since I'm running on a ATI radeon 4800 series. It fixed the problem of not being able to start up properly...sort of. When I start up the game now (I turned off HDR since that created a windows .exe error) and I get a black screen the size of the resolution I have chosen. Can anyone help me solve this problem?
Thank you in advance.

- Verify game cache (from Steam interface, right click on The Void entry, select Properties > Local Files then click Verify Integrity of Game Cache). If any missing or corrupted files are found, they will be redownloaded.
- update DirectX (launch DXSETUP from SteamApps\common\the void\DirectX)
- reinstall PhysX (installer is located at the root of SteamApps\common\the void\ folder)

- is there any hint as to what may go wrong in \Documents\My Games\Void\LogFiles\game.log?
- try launching game in Windowed mode. To do this, open \data\config.xml and change the line
<Fullscreen />
into something else, for example
<Fullscreen_ />
Set any small resolution and launch the game. Probably an error message will pop in background.
Also, in case the game crashes, you may check exceptions.txt in the Log Files folder. But this file is only created/updated when a crash does occur.

I did the steps JackM gave, started the game in windowed mode and this error appeared:

Now I checked the FAQ, which tells me to make sure I got the right version of DirectX, which I did so.

Similar to the error that I'm getting: http://errur.com/i/images/2690_error.png

OK, so this is the same very error that causes the empty main menu. Try changing paths in fsystems.xml. As I described here:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1335079
But first, find the \Public\Documents\My Games\Void\Cache and move the files you find there somewhere else. The game can compile these shaders in realtime, only it causes lags. If the game works fine without the files, then some file was probably corrupted (for example, effects30.dat or effect30h.dat) I would suggest checking your installation or asking someone with the working game to send you this file.
Or you may try playing without the precompiled cache. A slowdown appears only the first time you see a material and a certain number of omni and directional lights. As soon as the most often used materials are already seen and compiled, you will rarely encounter further lags.

Removing those files worked. I am now able to play the game. Thank you for your help!
