Starting in 'Combined Operations' doesn't work.

After my game was updated today. I was given the choice of starting in combined operations. I clicked it and a command prompt window flashed up. Then my computer sat there doing nothing. I've tried everything now and I still can't get me Arma 2 and Arrowhead to merge.

Here's the installation locations of my games.

I don't have time to do a clean install. That's over 14GB of files.

Anyway I ran Arma 2 again through Steam. Then I tried combined operations again.

Now it says "This game is unavailable. Try again later". :(

I've had my ArmA 2 installed for over a year as well, and just got OA and launching it in Combined Operations worked fine here.

as there was update to the way how run A2:OA i suggest You revalidate A2:OA file cache (unless You got it auto-updated today already)

to get running A2:CO properly you need first run once ARMA 2 (this will write path to ARMA 2 to registry)
and then try run ARMA 2: CO (as it's first start of A2:OA it will write it's path to registry too)

in case someone still have problems of the paths not written to registry, please try run STEAM as admin
and post here if it helped or not

Maybe its related to the manual patch patch used prior to the latest updates?

I replaced edited the run command in the .cmd file in the AO directory and I got some mods in Combined Ops

well i'm not deploying it for now because some people claims issues so i need look into it...

also the fully real fix like detecting the A2 path in code ...
will not come sooner than with patch and that only if all goes right

it's not that simple when games are separated installs
(e.g. mod detection and loading and so on)

I ended up just copying my A2 directory into the OA dir. That allows it to work correctly with out BIS token fix.

Arma II: Combined Operations works for me, however when ever I click "Play Combined Operations" a little annoying command prompt pops for like 10 seconds before loading the game. If I click either "Arma II" or "Arma II: Operation Arrowhead" it goes straight into the game without having an annoying command prompt window. yes, that's the thing that's make CO work for Steam, without it you can play only-ArmA2 or only-AO. The only thing it missing is support for MODs.

I can run ArmA 2, but I cannot really run ArmA 2:OA even for the first time since I downloaded it.

OA just does not start. Steam keeps pop up that window about "first time setup" repeatedly, non stop. Yet game never start.

Basically so far, I ran ArmA 2 several times, yet for OA, there is no way to launch it.

Hey guys easy fix for the steam version. go into C:/Programfiles/Steam/Steamapps/Common/Operation Arrowhead/ and in that file there should be another called _runA2CO it doesnt have the regular ARMA 2/OA logo but if you run that itll run CO. you can just make ashortcut on to your desktop to make it faster

Yes, you're right after running ArmA2 CO launch faster (the DOS windows apears right away) but still take some ~30 seconds to start loading the game.
And you're right steam overlay doesn't work in Comb.ops.
Im new to the ArmA series, so im still very confused , but slowly learning :(

Combined operations has a lot of problems, just run them seperately.

I figured out what the issue was.

For whatever reason it doesn't like the Quesh Kibrul or Spritz Island islands. Removing them from the modline fixed the issue.


Really weird but at least the ingame overlay works now. :D

I shouldnt have to download that, since I bought both on steam. So it should launch. I have custom start up parameters on a shortcut. But im trying to run CO by starting up steam manually, clicking game libarary, play, and then Launch ARMA2 CO. It worked fine like a week ago haha.

I have played arma 2 for year and now i got arma 2 co i was .. ♥♥♥♥ING AWSOME ;D but now one day started it and the games goes to menu screen (single player multyplayer ect.. ) and then shows arma 2 exe dosnt respond soo i tryed one more time to launch it but the same... soo i found that there is a new patch soo i instaled it .. after that i had the same PLAYING FUN as before but in next day i wanted to play it but.. arma 2 stopped working.. and now i think WtF? :(
what could cause this?

ARMA 2 must be updated to version 1.07 before you can use the ARMA 2 : Combined Ops (OA binary loading both OA and A2 content) mode

maybe something went wrong with patching but A2 1.07.71750 should work if A2: OA 1.52 works too

I am having this issue now. Just started in the past few days. After the update to 1.55.

I cannot get Combined Operations to work at all. I have tried re-verifying the game caches and started the games up in order from Arma2, Arma2 Operation Arrowhead, Combined Operations. The first 2 work, the CO does not load.

Anyone else getting this? Solutions?

The solutions posted did not quite work for me. After trial and error I found I had to include the few extra steps I list in my post in this linked thread to fix this issue plus a missing vehicle error that occurred at the same time after the 1.55 patch. Just an FYI.

that's because STEAM write into registry the path to ARMA 2 game
this path is then used for the ARMA 2: Combined Ops mode

w/o this step the A2: CO mode don't know where to find the ARMA 2 game

EDIT:It works now after i did the verification. I also put shortcuts on my desktop for the games which i hadn't before so maybe that helped it, I don't really know but it works.

I fully expect OA's engine to lower my performance in Chernarus and elsewhere, and I don't want that.

But Operation Arrowhead has higher system requirements and a more advanced lighting engine.

Anyways, I ran Combined Ops and it had no effect on the Chernarus benchmark mission.

I know you are working overtime, Dwarden, but I feel like I am too. How can I set up Combined Operations to work with mods and beta patches? A shortcut pointing to _runA2CO_beta loads the beta patched game without mods. The Steam Combined Operations option doesn't load the beta patch, and now it says the game is Unavailable.

if it bombs , look in the windows event log and post what you see in application/system event logs...

also, make sure windows, drivers, directx, c/c++ runtimes are all up to date...

also, make sure your antivirus is not the problem. some aa by default block things. some force you have to like open things at a very granular low level, zonealarm did that... but not the only... caused all sorts of trouble if you had it blocking certain dlls, operations...

Steam is responsible for unavailable DLC. But why not start mod CO? Steam not blame. You do not want to make a nice icon for CO? And remove the icons Arma2 and Arma2:OA? And in the icon CO to make a submenu "launch Arma2" or "launch Arma2:OA"? It would be better than to see a launching black window .bat file....
I would like to return the money, but I really like your (BIS) games..... I believe you are correct this bug. Because many people with the CO mod's startup problems in Steam. I really hope that you will solve the problem, because all these methods have not helped me. Thx, and sorry for my bad English.

I have a issue like this, Combined Operations is not on my menu anymore in steam. I bought it but now it says I have Arma II and Arma Arrowhead but not the Combined Operations .
Any ideas? as it was there before I went on vacation , and when I got back it is not listed. Says I will have to buy it. Already did.

Hey guys and Dwarden, a group of my friends bought steam version Arma 2 Combined Operations and installed it, i told him to set his steam and games "Run as administrator" and launch Arma 2 first for the registry thingy.

The problem he's facing now are everytime he tries to launch the game it will have the following error "Arma 2 stopped working" and "Program will be close and blah blah blah". Is there any solution to it? now my 7 friends can see the game but cant play it haha!

Couldn't hurt to try verifying the game cache for A2 and OA.*

The problem is that error is just a very generic 'something bad happened'. Hard to tell what might be causing it without more information. You might also want to check out the BI Troubleshooting (http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?f=83) forum if you don't get any luck here.

*May reset that registry entry bit, I don't remember. Couldn't hurt to run Steam as admin after just in case.

1. run ARMA 2 once and exit
2. select ARMA 2: OA and choose 'Launch A2: CO mode' either in STEAM game menu or after doubleclick the game entry in STEAM ...

if that don't work verify cache of both games and repeat the steps...

I am re-downloading Arma2 in hopes of having more time to properly get comfortable with it. Will this work if I have downloaded OA from Amazon.com? I assume I can just install it right next to Arma2 core files that steam is downloading now? Or is this going to complicate things ^o^
