View Full Version : Tried the demo - disappointed

I like to trade.
I like ships with sails (as long as I don't have to work there).

When this game came to steam, I knew I would buy it someday.
When the specials started, I knew I would buy it the last day, to be sure I did not miss a daily special for it.

Yesterday I tried the demo - off steam.

Because after half an hour I totally lost any interest in the game it may be I did not see half of it.

Some things I did not like:

You can not create your own industry.
Automatic trading should be between any number of ports you want, but it is only between two cities.
You can not automatically trade between two cities of your choosing, one city must always be your one (!) home port.
Capturing a port is not giving you more money in the long run, it costs a lot and is only good for your ships to be able to use it to pause on their way to their target or just to be able to trade with the city.
If you want to use some city options, you have to enter the city which takes a long time because of the loading of the city. (In the real game I have been told this is better: Port options in the map view)
The ship combat is no fun. (Perhaps it is just, that I suck, who knows)

Ok, so I did not a long test of the game because I just got too bored with even the demo.
But if you ever played games like Patrician (1-3) or X(1-3) you will with high possibility be very disappointed by this game.

If you liked "Ports of Call" and would like to play it today with better graphics, older ships and many cool options (compared to Ports of Call) then this is your thing.

If you want to build a trade empire, then it is not.

I did read a lot of reviews and was not impressed by the bad ones:

No politics: I want to trade, better that way.
No land combat: Ship trading game with what ?
Slow ship combat: Yeeees, that is how it was, right ? No action game ? What a shaaaaaame.

But the reviews did not mention the things I did not like about the game.

And I was really looking forward to buy it and build my sailing ship empire
