Hello everybody.
As some of you may know, few months ago we've created a steam group called "The Ship is Alive". At first we wanted to find someone to play with cause you can't really play game like this with bots, and you guys have to admit that this game is really unique. I'm talking about Hunt, Elimination, etc. game types, not that weird, and unplayable like deathmatch. Well today we've got almost 800 members, and great, crowded events EVERY DAY. We're living in Europe, and it's pretty hard for us to schedule an event during US/Australian prime times. We'd really like to encourage you guys somehow to make events on your own. We were thinking that we can appoint one person from US, and one person from Australia to be an event manager. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't collide anyhow with our European events, and that would be a pretty good way to solve timezone problems. My question is .. are there any volunteers?
Second thing I wanted to mention is that we're collecting donations to set our own servers up. There's of course no need to pay, it's completely for volunteers. Information about that you can find in our group announcement - http://steamcommunity.com/groups/shipalive
Third thing - our main server that we're playing on - TheVille.org has a really nice website with stats if you haven't noticed yet. Here's the website for that.

I'd love to contribute by running a dedicate server, but the Linux build is borked.

Surely it makes more sense to consolidate the existing servers, not create more empty ones?

Great group, only recently got The Ship and played a couple times with bots but it doesnt nearly compare to these large human games.
Even though I live on the west coast of the US the timing of the european events work out really well for me as my university classes are over by then and I can enjoy a nice game of hunt to wind down. :D

I am in the group because I like how unique this game is, but I actually only have the single player version of the game since when I bought it, it was very dead multiplayer wise.
And since there are never any sales on the game and you can't buy ONLY the multiplayer part, I can't justify paying $20 ontop of $10 I already paid for just the single player.
I would like to join in on the fun, but out of principle, I can't unless they put on a good sale or make a separate multiplayer only pack. That or if anyone has an extra giftable copy laying around.

Just how alive is The Ship? Do some of the servers have bots on them or how does it work?

There are 3 or 4 servers with bots but it's not much fun without a few humans :)
There are some good games going on at week ends. Occasionally you get lucky mid-week and there will be 5 or 6 other humans in the same server.
Just look at the server browser.

I really wish steam had a sale going on for The Ship, I would gladly pay 10$ for that game to support Outerlight,I just can't pay 20$ for a game i know is dead, and hopefully a sale would revive the multiplayer as well and bring back some old players.
I'm pretty sure people who bought Bloody Good Time and enjoyed it would be willing to pay for The Ship with a lower price tag.

@OrWarrior.
I love game of Ship, i usually manage to play everyweek. With the help of the ship is alive group that this post is about, its easy to play it with players. You can play The Ship normally, but only during evenings, or their events. Really there is no way to buy this game and dont enjoy it, all you need is to track Ship's alive games, or server's status. Damn this games good.
Good luck man!
ps. Try to find it on ebay if still 20bux is a prob for you. But cmon, ship is 4395 times better then $60 black ops. Buy it and join our unique community of Shippers;p Until we are alive ship is not dead

Bloody Good Time was decent, but lacked the class and timelessness that atmosphere that the ship had...I miss this game. A server full of humans is a tense, paranoia filled game that is so much better and different game than playing with the brain dead bots...:)
I have just bought me and 3 of my friends this game as we used to play it before there was a price tag on it and loved it!
Hope you guys are right about it keeping active!

The game was ruined completely for me when they made needs recover instantly.
It completely wrecked the pacing of the game. The entire point of the needs system was supposed to be that sooner or later, you'd have to make yourself vulnerable by sitting on the toilet for 10 seconds or what have you, but now the pace is basically like a back-to-the-wall deathmatch with quick one-second bathroom trips.
Unless someone has come out with a mod to revert the need recovery back to the old style, I can't see the game being fun like it was. :(

Anyone know what the original needs values were? I think it's possible to change them.
