View Full Version : Cut Scenes: Video or Game Engine? Poor Quality...

Are the cut-scenes in The Witcher pre-rendered video, or done in real-time via the game engine? I originally thought they were all video (I know the stuff at the very beginning is), but then I noticed via FRAPS that my framerate varied based on the camera view in the scene- ie it might be 60fps facing one character, 110 when another was talking. No screen tearing, though...

I'm asking because the cut-scenes seem to be rendered at lower quality than the game- I run at 1920x1200, the cut scenes look to be blown up from a lower resolution. But... if they are done via the game engine... would I be able to change a setting to up the resolution they run in?

Eh I just noticed someone reporting a similar problem in this thread (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1331453). (when I read "lines" I thought he meant lines of dialogue lol)

I think the pixelation is why I thought it was lower resolution. Is there another way to fix this, other than changing the resolution or lighting quality? I don't want to turn down the lighting quality! And in Windows 7, ATI drivers are messed up- if you pick a lower resolution (ie 1920x1080 rather than 1920x1200) it stretches the image to fit the screen; the "centered timings" options are not available in win7. So that looks even worse, as the whole image is stretched verically.

just change the lighting quality to low

seriously, try it and see that the ingame graphics keep looking just as good, and the cutscene problem will be gone. it'll also put much less of a strain on the GPU during cutscenes (the game itself used about~50% while at cutscenes it jumped to 99%, clearly cause lighting doesn't work properly on them).
