Yeah I figured it out from reading that thread, but I forgot to write it up here, but thanks :)

Turns out the geniuses thought i'd be a good idea to have savegames stored in the registry database, so you have to backup the relevant registry entries. Isn't too hard, but it's just a silly/odd decision.
