Started with only brief hiccups in the menu after launching the MP game, but gradually worsened into what is now a full-on slideshow. SP crawls as well. But not sure it's FPS. The game literally will freeze up for 1-2 seconds, bridged by 1/3 of a second intervals where I have control (yes, it's THAT brief!)

Resurgence DLC, maybe? I didn't buy it. Steps taken to try to resolve the issue:

Verified Game Files

Re-installed Nvidia drivers (back on 197.45 after hearing many complaints with the 256s - but for the record, problem persisted using either drivers)

Tried another intensive FPS to see if my video card had died - worked fine

Re-downloaded MW2

Deleted/Re-installed Steam, re-downloaded MW2

Verified Game Files (again)

Uninstalled most applications from my system, disabled all non-crucial system tray applications - basically got my system down to barebones...

No change.

Heading out for the weekend, but will be formatting my box (Win7 x64 Ultimate) when I return to see if that fixes it. Thinking it's possibly some conflicting files that were installed with other applications...

Anyone else experience this - and more importantly - did you find a fix not listed above?

Also tried the TCP fix. Nada. Read about it here to see if it helps you:

Noticing that most affected machines seem to be the x64 versions of Win7...

I had this problem when I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Ultimate. I switched Mixed-GPU Acceleration to Multi-display performance mode and it solved my problem. I was, however, using 2 displays. This might not work for you.

Thanks for the reply, Fahrenheit. Yeah, only running one monitor here :)

May be a TCP issue after all. Following another tip from the above forum post, I launched MW2 MP and let it sit idle. About 6 minutes later the issue went away...

From what I've been reading, that kind of behavior is attributed to MW2 cycling through ports. Once it finds what it's looking for, the issue stops.

Will research this more when I get back; hopefully there's a way to fix it via firewall settings. So far, though, nothing I've set (per directions) has worked.

OP, roll back your drivers to 195's. Apparently the subsequent drivers have polling problems.
