Just go for health upgrade in the start, it will save you a lot of trouble. Also every secret you find will give points so you will get upgrades from time to time.

Its not needed to get every single upgrade to complete the game but most of them help along the way.

My issue with the game is that I always had a hard time choosing between the needed upgrades, like health, and the cool gadgets like the triple grappling grab and the guided batarang. In the end I just got so good at the combat that it didn't matter to much. Although I will admit, the last fight with the joker was a complete pain in the behind. I can't count how many times I had to restart that one. Mainly because I missed my window of opportunity due to the thugs continuously knocking me back.

Great game though. I originally played the game on the console, and am definitely considering purchasing this game on Steam in the near future.

Health upgrades are for casuals. Get the one where you can kill them by hanging upside down. Then get Batarang and combo upgrades.

Agreed. Nothing is better than more combo options...

In the last battle, I would put some proximity explosive gel in random areas. This can help a great deal. I've beaten Joker twice now without too much problem. (completed twice without too much issue) I think the upgrades depend on how you play. Although doing the Riddler's challenges can help in getting points to get more upgrades quicker. Although Poison Ivy does restrict some of the island not too long after encountering Killer Croc (I think!) and this makes it harder

Get the one where you can kill them by hanging upside down. Then get Batarang and combo upgrades.

You mean the "inverted takedown" and Batman doesn't kill, he beats the enemy into unconsciousness.

the only upgrades you really need are the fighting and batarang upgrades. everything else can pretty much be skipped.

I think i know what OP means , he is not having trouble to choose an uprgrade over another,he is "uncomfortable" the system as it is.I can say the same for chracter profiles and interview tapes that interrupts gameplay(as well as the arkham chronicles)they cut off the cinematic feel a bit,but what the hey, game is great (in fact is best in its class) as it is.

I find upgrade system is great, gives a little touch of an RPG/action flick though much simpler. However it could have been executed better, rather than shoving the upgrades and new gadgets into our eyes as if this is 1966 The Batman tv show.

I love the upgrade system. Nothing more rewarding than owning a bunch of inmates in a fight and then purchasing yourself a nice new addition to your combo :D
Or even getting the different batarangs.

Also, health upgrade is only useful in Hard mode, and not even until near the end, unless you have issues with countering. I so love just standing in the middle of 6 or more inmates and waiting for them to hit me, just to press mouse2 and be like OWNED SON! lol
God I love this game.
