I like Guitar Hero Series but I don't have any console so I can't play them (I know Frets on Fire on PC BTW) but Rhythm Zone is coming to Steam on 20th July. With this game you can play your songs like you do on Audiosurf or Beat Hazard. Regardless of your taste in music, you can play your favorite songs. Rhythm Zone supports a wide variety of file types and will identify most common songs against our database.

Here is the website of the game you can see the screenshots and watch the trailer.

Also official Steam Community Group in here.

The game doesn't look that promising, it's just a rip-off of a rip-off of a rip-off.

Only 3 Guitar Hero games are available on PC. Also they don't support your musics to play.

it does look like guitar hero with a bit of audiosurf but it doesnt have to suck cause of that.

also, in b4 Amy claiming the game sucks and that Beat Hazard is better.

If it can reasonably represent the song that your playing, and supports the guitar hero controller, I'll be interested.

I'm very happy with my guitar for the Wii and the Guitar Hero games. Using a guitar controller on the PC would be a nuisance, unless you have a huge monitor (which I don't), so I'm not interested in this one.

I give to you that being able to play your own songs seems interesting, but unless taken good care in the programming, it could end up working badly. A game like this is not like Audiosurf oF Beat Hazard, it requires much more precision at recognizing the notes. If it manages to do it, though, it might end up spelling doom for Guitar Hero. Still, I really don't think it's gonna happen.

Afew questions

-Price?
-How does the leaderboard work? So if i play 'TNT by ACDC' does my friend or people on the internet have to have that same exact file i am using? Or can people cheat by naming a file that really isn't the song?
-Is there Rock Band/Guitar Hero Guitar support? I know i can plug my PS3 controller on the PC with the right drivers.

My feedback to you.
-I kind of don't like the random arthouse electro seizure backgrounds. Do you have plans to include a background that is sort of like a concert with people playing like the Rockband/Guitar Hero series?

Are there any plans to make this in the future?

I'm not sure, but if it's anything like the Audiosurf leaderboards there shouldn't be a problem.

BTW, I didn't know developers also showed up in the forums. That's pretty cool, it shows they care about customers feedback... uh, unless he's a bot, of course.

Eh, sure... You know, Call of Duty fails so much, why don't you go to a real war instead?

I think you entirely miss the point of these games (or any games, for that matter).

What I meant, and it should have been obvious, is that the entire point of games is doing things you can't actually do in real life, for one reason or another.

I want to be able to play a song without going to all the hassle of having to learn to play guitar; I want to be able to shoot people's heads off without all the moral/legal/conscience destroying issues; I want to be able to fight mythological monsters without having to make the breakthtrough in genetic engineering that would make it possible for me to create such beasts.

Games are escapism from real life. You can't propose to stop gaming and do the real-life equivalent because that entirely defeats their purpose.

I don't want to learn guitar, I don't like it. I don't find it enjoyable. But I do like Guitar Hero. Everyone has different tastes.

in no way did i disagree with that, it's pretty much what i said anyway. you play war games cause you obviously don't want to go to war and have the real experience

but this doesn't apply here because as i said, playing the guitar is easy and you don't even have to "learn" to play it to play songs

hell i remember the first song i "learned". felt much better than most experiences video games ever offered

It's still an entirely different experience. I like rythm games, but I don't like playing real instruments. And I'm far from the only one, seeing how well these games sell.

This sounds interesting. It'd be great if i can plug my Rock Band 2 instruments on PC.
I'm totally looking forward to this!

There's nothing wrong with that.
People like me would rather spend on this kind of stuff.
It's not easy learning a real instrument and the most important, ''Starting a band'' that share the same tastes about music.

Could people please shut up about playing a real guitar instead? It's getting quite old. Why play Tetris, move some real bricks instead! Why play Mario, jump on real turtles instead!

But this game looks quite fun, at least I'll be able to use my entire music library! So much for buying DLC! :D

That's what I said, it's not the same thing. I nearly killed my turtle jumping on it trying to get infinite 1-ups, and although eating that mushroom made everything look smaller, turns out it was an hallucination :(

Hey everyone, thanks for all your interest! Let me answer some of your questions here.

A lot of you were curious about the price of Rhythm Zone, well to clarify that Rhythm Zone will normally be priced at $9.99. But for the first week of sale starting July 20th, were going to offer Rhythm Zone at 10% off!

For questions about Leaderboards, Rhythm Zone will have both Global and Friends boards. We utilize Last.fm's fingerprint technology to ensure the songs you analyze match up with your friends or any other Rhythm Zone player's songs. However, you can feel free to edit your songs label information, since the song is not identified by the label. The song is identified by the music itself.

As far as controllers go, Rhythm Zone is designed for keyboard use (with 4 button input and NO strum button :)) though any USB peripheral (e.g. a guitar game controller) will work with Rhythm Zone. You can feel free to configure the key settings as you wish on USB peripherals, though we can't handle support inquiries on products made by third parties

On the visualizer backgrounds, we're definitely going our own route and not trying to recreate Guitar Hero. So with that, we have no plans to do a club scene. However post launch we will have many visualizers for sale as DLC, and we'll be posting a survey for anyone to request up and coming features and send us requests for new visualizers. As mentioned above we have no plans for a club scene, but if enough players request such a thing, well we'll definitely put that on the list.

What won't be DLC however, are supported file formats. So everyone can expect Rhythm Zone to launch with support for all major music formats, including iTunes files. The supported file types are:
• mp3
• m4a
• aac
• flac
• wav
• ogg
• wma

The game doesn't look that promising, it's just a rip-off of a rip-off of a rip-off.

Right, because there is only allowed to be one game per genre, and all similar games after that are "rip-offs."

I will say, though, in regards to this game: Rock Band called, they want their UI graphic design back.

+1

I'm not trying to be rude to the developer but I'm really trying to work out of the appeal of Rhythm Zone is when Frets on Fire is free and open source.

- It has a massive modding community
- Has a strum button
- Has 5 notes instead of 4
- Has leader boards
- Free themes and backgrounds.
- Is crossplatform on Windows/Mac/Linux

The only advantage Rhythm Zone has is that it plays any song you have.
