View Full Version : Worst control settings ever!
I delete this game as I couldn't even get past the initial training. I got told to take the weapon, but how do you do that? Got tired of looking into the extremely slow and crappy menu system for what strange control settings this game uses.
Besides is there a way to skip all the BS briefing?
As somebody else said in another forum; reality isn't all that fun in a game...

There are so many controls; it’s intimidating at first (especially to those who never played a game like this). However, after playing around with the game for a few weeks, I got used to it.

This just made my day :) Thanks for not understanding PC gaming!
P.S. Did it ever occur to you that going into the control options just MIGHT have the answer you're looking for? Maybe? Possibly? A chance in hell? Well it does :)
Happy failing!

Wow... While I understand it is overwhelming at first, the controls are not that abstract. They make sense. After playing OFP, Arma and Arma 2, I wish that those core controls would become standard among all pc FPS. IE: I love the 2x key to make the action stick (like peeking etc), the ZXC to quickly choose stance, and the ALT to move your head. That should be used on EVERY fps games. These controls give you so much freedom and it's hard to play other more standard games after getting used to this scheme, you just feel restricted.

I always feel that the whole control system filters out the short attention span players, which is a good thing.

Really just........ I'm lost for words? is this a real thread?
So when you ran up to the box, you didn't happen to glance over to the right hand corner and see it saying 'Press G to open menu' or anything along them lines?
Or Google your question, or read the manual, or youtube your question? you decided to hope straight into the forum and slate a game that isn't as simple as.. Press Y to pick up m16a2 or hold O to throw grenade?
Can we get this locked please? or shut away to the dark realm of troll posts.

and the fools, it's a good thing for sure.

Comes down to personal taste. if you can't even figure out how to change or learn the controls in a SIMULATOR game which you obviously do not find to be any fun at all... then by all means uninstall the game stop crying and go back to simple cod.
I on the other hand find this to be the most enjoyable combat game i've ever played.

well there aren't many games which allow user (YOU) to setup
+ multiple keys
+ combination of two keys/buttons at once
+ double taps
+ combination of multiple input devices (e.g. key+mouse button,mouse button+joy button)
for any game actions
(except these which needs to be UI driven ofcourse)
so in the end it's all about what's You prefer to set
ofcouse any suggestions how forther improve this are welcome

I think you guys scared of OP after making him look foolish. But I'm not exactly a fan of the current system either, but it's not as bad as OP describes it.

Game Manual has some pre set ones to get you started: http://cdn.steampowered.com/Manuals/33930/ARMA2OA_manual.pdf
Yes they are a bit hard to get setup at first, but well worth it man.
Do whatever it takes to get the controls the way you like them.
Also I suggest you get a nice flight stick, TrackIR and a Nostromo n52 or gaming keyboard to make all the bindings easier to adapt to. The controls in this game are SERIOUS and so dang flexible that I dont think many people would ever have identical key layouts.
Some patience + trial and error on the key bindings is all you need.

Doesn't OA tell you which key to use during the training anyway?

also more notes to make;
you can define not just
right ctrl + up
but also
up + right ctrl
so don't forget to set both if you want use it at just any combo of right ctrl + up :)
and don't forget there are standalone keys setups for infantry, cars and air vehicles ;)

it should tell and actually adapt the info displayed according to keys you redefined ...

The OP seems to be gone lol. I am, However, curious as to what aspect of the controls he found difficult.
There's your standard WASD movement keys, ZXC stances keys, QE leaning keys NB for nightvision and binoculars and alt to look around.. Off the top of my head. Then there are various keys for other things like P for server menu and G for gear etc.
If that is too much to 'memorise' (most people only need to be told the controls once, briefly) then console is the way to go for you :D
