I was just wondering if anyone knows if the game will stay in your games list even when it is deleted. Other free games disappear when they are deleted.

Lets just say: I think so.

No problem for me; I won't delete it from my list ever. :P

Just don't ever delete it? Why would you, anyway? :P

If it does disappear, how hard would it be to navigate to the page and click Install Game like the other free games? Or use the steam://install/630 link?

Free games like America's Army 3 leave your list when uninstalled. This might work exactly the same. As for people asking why you would delete it, the answer is simple: Hard-drive space. If this is a game you might only play every now and then, as the urge hits, you might delete it to make room for a game you REALLY want to play at the moment.

Of course, everybody here is going to become a devoted fan, right?

If I format my computer it will also get deleted from my library?

Yes, but we still fail to see the problem. Just go to the Steam Store and install it again.

i added portal to my G-list at the free-weekend....never played it but its still in my list and i can install it ?? wtf =D

i hope the same with alien swarm^

Nekomancer

That is a different case. Portal is not a free game. It was a promotional offer. Games that are always free don't stay in your games list after they are uninstalled.

yes but why i should uninstall it^

quick question: not like it would be a big deal but if i were to log in to another computer that doesn't have it installed, would it still show up in my library or would i have to go to the game page and download the game again?

Nekomancer

The latter. You'd need to go to the Storepage.

It's different from America's Army. Alien Swarm is Valve's Game. They will remain in your gamelist even after deleted IMO.

HL2DM is also avaible for free (either on the NVida-Card-deal-page or the ATI-Card-Deal-page) and when you uninstall it, it also disappears from your gameslist.

Yet I fail to see the problem in the whole thing: If you uninstalled it, you go back to the store-page, click on "install" and install it once again.

Maybe he wants it to *not* be on the game list? So people don't find out he's secretly been playing it?

When portal was free, it stayed in your list. This is no different.

this would be the perfect time for Valve to implement a system where you could pin/bookmark free games, mods, & demos to your account (and remove them later if desired)

Not here Oo

Here I have this game uninstalled, but it's still on my gamelist.
Also, some of my friends and my girlfriend have this game uninstalled and still on the gamelist too.

Same here. The disappearance from the game list only happens with other free games.

I think that Steam Cloud is made for this too: Once you get a game on Steam, it remains in your list for ever. So, if you uninstall it (because you need disk space or because you format), you can always install it again.

This is a part of this. For the RUSE beta, a while back, I played for a bit. I look at the game in my game list now, it still remembers how much I played previously. Steam will remember what games you've played on your account and sync that information when it's reinstalled. It's always on your account.

@Older_1
That has nothing to do with Steam Cloud. Steam Cloud is for saving savegames, settings and player profiles online.

@spencer314
Once again, has nothing to do with SteamCloud, this is a normal Steam feature and does not need Cloud.

That's what I meant, but I realized I forgot to mention that about 2 minutes after I wrote it. It's time for sleep...

My friend just installed steam and he doesnt have any game...so cause of that he cannot add me as a friend on steam, so my question is:

1. will he be able to play Alien Swarm (probably yes)
2. will he be able to play Alien Swarm with me?

if you know his friends nickname you can add him to your list. then, you can join him (or he can join you) in the same game.

(hope I helped a bit here)

Your friend can't add you as long he doesn't own a game he paid for. But you can still add him.

Just create a lobby and tell him your IP.

Then you wait untill Alien swarm comes out, you (both) download it and then, he adds you in his list. Pretty simple, isn 't it?

Actually I believe that it might be a problem if he's friend has not set up the profile page, that needs to be set up before adding friends. Or atleast it helps alot.

As for the actual topic, I guess that if any Steam dev notices this message, I suggest that an option to make a free game as "sticky" (making it show on ones list even if not installed) would be favoured by many.

Such a system would be very nice and helpful!

Yeah, I'd really, REALLY like to see a feature where you can permanently add free games/content to your Steam library, as well.

Over the six years or so I've been on Steam, I've used and played a LOT of free stuff that I always forget about later. I can think of about half a dozen off the top of my head, but I know there's more than that.

THIS is why having to go to the store page every time is a minor problem but a problem nonetheless.

Please add this, Valve! This is a game that I'd like to pick up again down the line, and I'd just like to have a little reminder in my library that it exists.
