Minimum
OS: Windows® 7 / Vista / Vista64 / XP
Processor: Pentium 4 3.0GHz
Memory: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
Graphics: DirectX 9 compatible video card with 128 MB, Shader model 2.0. ATI X800, NVidia 6600 or better
Hard Drive: At least 2.5 GB of free space
Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
OS: XP
Processor: Pentium 3 1200 MHz (1.2 GHz)
Memory: 512 MB
Graphics: ATI Radeon Mobility, (old machine and in a foreign language, trying to find more info; Worried about the Shader Model)
Hard Drive: Enough free space
Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible
On vacation and using an old laptop, never really had to worry about spec's before so Im not sure about getting Alien Swarm to run, although it would appear upfront that I can't.
Were I to run on the lowest settings's and even perhaps alter the game files would I be able to run it?

Can you run it? Literally, yes.
Will you run it well enough to enjoy it? Probably not.
I don't know of any way to edit a game's files so that you can reduce its system requirements, but someone else around here might (assuming it's possible, which I doubt).

No, I don't think you'll get far with that rig.

i don't think so processor is very weak could use more RAM and that sounds like an integrated vid chipset, you could try it on the lowest, but still no guarantees.

It seem's there was a lot of emphasis put on the shading, and seeing as how I had trouble running TF2 on the same rig due to shading (I had to download some swiftshader thing) I was hoping that toning it down would make it playable
Also as an aside I am capable of opening up TF2 but can't actually play the game for longer than a few seconds. (Can craft though)

I'll just say it right out. You will not be able to run it with that rig. No beating around the bush.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see, they are releasing the game's full code, someone might figure something out.

As far as I know, you can 'roll back' source engine to dx6 to decrease system requirement (with exchange of fancy graphics, of course). But someone who actually knows about source engine development should answer this question....

I don't think so. DX6 support was dropped a long time ago. DX7 was dropped with the latest OB updates. And Alien Swarm runs on a engine similar to L4D2 so DX8 at the very least. DX9 is preferred and suggested.

I'm a master of fps configs and that rig won't get over 10 fps in the lowest possible settings. All source games can use the same fps configs and settings so just google tf2 m0res fps config and download it, it'll install the same way ad in l4d or tf2.
But honestly that computer is beyond aged, I had an old emachines pc with 1 gig ram and 1.8 proccesor, i'm confused how that computer even functions with that CPU.
90% chance the game won't even start because of no shaders, 10% it may run but crash because it can't play over 1 fps

Hey guys, how good will it run on mine?
Intel Celeron 2 GHz
1 GB RAM
ATI X300 128MB
Windows XP

Not well at all, maybe playable with use of dx8.1 and fps configs
considerably better than ops dinosaur CPU though

Laptop I assume?
This will not run it too well without a bit of tweaking. Low settings definitely, and not at a high resolution. What other games can you run? Any Source games?
Edit: Ninja'd

I always run at lowest settings. L4D1 runs 20-50 fps and L4D2 15 minimum, TF2 is similar. I don't mind FPS configs that make the game look like ♥♥♥♥ and this isn't a laptop.
But this game won't be as restrictive as to fps configs as is L4D because it will be open source so I can probably get better fps.

Sir you should really assemble a new pc if you have pc games, of you save the case/ CPU heatsink/ Psu
and hard drive you could put together a system that maxes tf2 1600x1000 resolution and plays crysis well for around 200

Ah, those looked like laptop specs, sorry. If you can run L4D at a playable level, using configs or whatever, expect Alien Swarm to run about the same.
Edit: Ninja'd again for the third time, darren!

Specifically it's a 19-year old Dell Latitude laptop, and I believe I've done that rollback dX fix for TF2, (There was some guide to run tf2 on the worst comp's ever made or something, tried a few of the things there but misunderstood the other bit's.
It run's slow but it really isnt that bad.

19 years old. Are you sure? We were still using Window 3.1 back then.
Again, if you can run TF2 at a level that's good for you, this should run okay.

The specs are below the minimum requirements, so I don't think you would, if you manage to run it, be able to enjoy playing it. I guess you should get a better system. Games are more enjoyable if they run fast, seriously.

Guess I'm good. I also advice putting together a rig like this one if you're low on budget. It's relatively cheap and offers pretty good performance.

I meant that I can use the computer fine, was responding to the poster who said he wondered how I can even use the computer, no, unfortunately I cant actually play tf2 (as in I cant actually play matches, can still launch and craft and stuff).
Also this could probably run fine on the computer I have back home, it's just the laptop Im borrowing

I agree, and if I had money and time, I'd get a new system. But my P4 and 7800GS will have to do for now.

Ah, it helps if I read previous posts. Thanks for the clear-up. And IMHO, I wouldn't even try with your laptop. Wait till you get access to your computer.
