Whenever I run this game, as soon as I start playing the game freezes and my graphics driver crashes, then recovers once I close the game through the Windows Task Manager. I had the same exact issue with Left 4 Dead 2, but I fixed it with a driver update. I'm currently running the most current driver for my card (Which is the ATI Radeon HD 3870). It seems like my card is over heating, but that doesn't make sense considering I can hear the fan blowing fine, it crashes after like two seconds, and I've played much more graphically intensive games for long periods of time without any issue. Oh, and I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, if it's of any relevance.

So do I just have to wait and hope for a driver update that'll fix it (which could take months) or is there some way to fix this?

And no, I don't intend on dropping a few hundred bucks so I can buy a new card so I can play a "free" game.

I'm just gonna bump this once. Chances are I won't find a solution in a sea of whiners.

Got ATI Radeon HD 4870 and it either crashes the game or just blue screens on me. Goin to keep trying but it dont look like most problems will be fixed for a few days.

So you're sure you have Catalyst 10.6..?

Try disabling multicore rendering

ATI 3800 series video cards require an older version of Catalyst, as I'm told in This thread: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1153604&page=2

Download Catalyst 9.3
For Win7 32-bit: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/9-3/Pages/radeonaiw_vista32.aspx?&lang=English

For win7 64-bit: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/9-3/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx?&lang=English

It may help. I have the HD 3870 card as well, and this version of Catalyst seemed to stop TF2 crashing similarly, at least for a while.

Thanks for the info, I'm downloading 9.3 right now, hopefully it'll fix the issue.

Try disabling multicore rendering

This. I had a crash/hang issue earlier and turned off multicore rendering out of reflex. No crashes since (several missions later).

So I would try that before I'd fiddle around with drivers.

Just played through my first whole mission, it went swimmingly, not even a single hang. Thanks a lot!

Switching to Catalyst 9.3 was the magic.
