Post your ideas in this thread for future maps/campaigns for mappers to pick up and shape into custom content.

I'm personally waiting for gauntlet maps where the point is to run through a heavily infested area and make it to the end. Something where you have no time to stop.

Edit: Just to shape my idea out a bit more. Imagine a big volcanic area. You start at the feet of an active volcano. It erupts and lava starts to flow. You have to run to an extraction point, and of course, there will be a lot of aliens in your way. To prevent too much rushing, there would be parts where you have to extinguish flames or cut through rocks. Very generic, I know.

I'd love a gauntlet type map too, it'd be fun to try and blast your way through a megaton of Aliens with bullets flying everywhere. Challenging but very very fun

It shouldn't be too hard to export some materials from other source games, no? Unless there are some legal issues with that.

Please, for the love of god, make it open and with many places to bunker up. The biggest problem with survival maps has always been that there is one obvious point on where to hold up. Anyways, looking forward for it.

I've made one survival map so far(little bit bugged) and am working on replicating C-Block, from the new AvP game.

How about a "competitive" co-op game. Four players, but the team is split into two groups of two (or even everyone on their own?). Similar to the sections in Gears of War where you have to split up. Maybe even make it so that you can help your teammates out at certain spots, or leave 'em to die. That might make the map devolve into simple TK'n though.

Then there could be common areas where there would be health kits and ammo. You could horde it for yourself or work with your team. Perhaps using environmental traps to get revenge on each other, instead of direct access to helping/hindering each other (to avoid the TK issue)?

Someone would have to figure out how you could force everyone into separate paths after each common area though.

No problem, just separate each spawn with a wall, forcing them down a path. Then a have switches that is on one path that can help players on another, opening doors and such. As for the common areas...Unless you make a door that closes at the speed of light, the common area must be walled off too, each player with their own personal ammo box and health pack. That is a great idea you have there!

not sure about map, but a cool idea for a room would be, as part of a mission etc

you enter big room think of the part of the current campaign where you have the lift

its very dark etc, you press button, perhaps to wait for lift and lights flash, sort of like strobe lighting or swinging lights, then you fight off a huge swarm in a freaky uber horror disco atmosphere :D

I'd LOVE to see an "aliens" recreation. Or at least an aliens tileset to use, with Wayland corporation station corridors.

We need some defense modes! there could be tower defense, where you place different turrets to create a stronghold against waves of aliens.

"Arena Mode" you must fend off different variants of aliens in a small circle room, with every 5 rounds a single health pack is dropped to fight amongst the team mates, in the last round (im thinking 20 rounds) you must fight your teammates, last man standing is given cake.

The campaign I'm hoping to work on will take place on a spaceship that's been infested. The first mission will begin on the outer hull as you have to weld/hack your way in through an airlock. From there you travel through the lifeless (apart from bugs ofc) cargo bay, through to the frozen and malfunctioning Life Support centre and then to the main reactor where you restore main power. After that you have to head to the bridge and likely destroy the ship (Either point at a star or self destruct, not sure which).

That's assuming i can get the hang of Hammer..

One word. Stormtroopers! I'm thinking of a 8 vs. 8 if possible, where one player from each team gets to play as Darth Vader or the Emperor. Task for the people playing stormtroopers to tactically defend and attack their enemy's base at the other side and kill their Darth Vader/Emperor, which has a boost in health and attack power, making it more harder to kill. The ones who die suffer from 1 min. waiting for a respawning.

The map itself can have a Wookie homeland/Death Star theme, that is divided in 2 bases with some space in between.

I've got an idea for a map.

I don't think the game presented enough opportunities for players to make good use of the flares or flashlight attachment. So my idea is..

Some critical structure (???) has disappeared off the grid. You're sent in there to check out what happened. Turns out the place is infested and the power's out, but with the power out, you have no light.

Therefore, most of the map is entirely dark, save any odd sources of light, i.e. windows and such. At the beginning of the map it does give you a flashlight attachment, regardless of what level you are.

Your first objective is to turn on the power generator, which will require a Tech. Doing that triggers a massive swarm, of course, but at least the lights are back on. From there you have to access several data stores. Again, this requires a Tech.

From there.. well, that's where I'm out of ideas. Though I suppose that may be a good point to request an evac out of the mission.

And if you're wondering, yes, the mission will have parasites.

So you're saying that Alien Swarm, an obvious "ripoff" of another intellectual property (namely Aliens) should not have come about? And where is the creativity in your map idea? It sounds a lot like . . . the movie Aliens.

You see, most mods are designed around another property because, let's face it, it's fun to take great ideas from one source and see how they fit in another.

I haven't actually had a look at the editor, so I'm not sure if it's possible, but how about a map where you begin split up? Perhaps use of windows or balconies so you can help one another, but you can't reach your teammates. Then some event that gets you back together for the finale.

...Yeah, you can see why I don't create much stuff. :/

What about a giant infested city, have the goals spread out across the map, like defend the hospital, clear the highways, escort the civilians to the pick up zone, you know stuff like that.

Or just continue fantasizing and providing ideas that are either too hard, would require insane amounts of custom materials, models, and artwork, or are just plain silly. Tower defense? Are you kidding me? That would require an entirely new custom mod using the Source SDK with new AI.

I'm not insulting anyone, but please post reasonable ideas. Some ideas that have been posted are, though the majority are not.

Have you ever seen starship troopers? The whiskey outpost scene? Yea, someone should create that.

Make the walls of the outpost welded doors that the aliens have to break through :)

An abandoned prison or warehouse - it became overrun by the swarm, looking for bodies for parasites. Since a massive parasite infestation occurred, there should be plenty of biomass and parasite eggs to crack here.

I'm thinking that Tower Defense games were originally "hacked" in that you created a map that funneled the baddies through the maze, so that no AI tweaking was necessary. I think you're being a bit pessimistic in regards to what the community, even novice members, are capable of.

Was I the only person who thought about Space Hulk when they played through the ventilation part of Residential?

The tiles and materials are likely all there, all someone would need is a sourcebook for Space Hulk and then we can get around to shuffling through narrow corridors and getting murdered.

What about an extremely dark map? Maybe a rundown space facility that has no power, and the objective is to get the power running again. The reason this would be cool is it would actually give a purpose to the flashlight / night vision goggles.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned a kind of homage to Killing Floor. From what I played at a LAN for a few hours, it seems like a solid idea to borrow from. Of course, the map would be top-down instead of FPS, but the round-based survival (complete with door-welding) seems like it could be done with little hassle.

Your idea is interesting but its basically Doom right? aliens in the dark... Anyways 90% of our culture is a rip-off of something already done.

As I said before, Mining Laser only.
Don't even need new maps, just make the current ones (or is editing them impossible?) have this feature. Or gen a random one. I just want some hot mining laser action.

Anyways, I'd love to see more elevator based maps, as in the second mission. An elevator where sentries aren't quite as effective (two completely free up the elevator). I love to see sentries and defenses get used.

Maybe some kind of huge labyrinth vent system, like the spot in the Mall level. I suppose it would be similar to Space Hulk. It would make for some nice times to use the laser trip mines :D

OK so I have no idea on how to mod, at all, I don't have the slightest idea on how its even started...

that said...

Not sure if its possible but I think the 'wall' on the cargo elevator is like an old 'phase/wave' game like Space Invaders (har har! Apt :D ) in itself. I was wondering if it would be possible to turn it into a continuous decent and have the aliens come up in more numbers and increasing toughness and the one who could get the furthest distance or time traveled would be the winner. Would be a good co-op game I think, makes people have to work together.

Could that work?

the aliens arent actually moving, they are static with a movement. The wall moves up so it looks like the bugs are climbing up

I've thought of an idea for a map that would give the players choices or multiple options when they reach a certain point. Instructions and options would be given subtly through PDAs (left behind from people that have been at that place?)

For example, players would come upon a two-doors. (If Possible) Doors would only open when the players have read the give PDAs. Door A would lead to several slow opening door(s) where the players would be swarmed by aliens once activated.

Door B would lead a safe area with 2 computers which activate 2 turrets on top of the slow opening doors inside of Door A.

Once the last of the slow opening doors have fully opened, a door on Door B's side will open to allow players to regroup while still being attacked by several aliens. The aliens would spawn indefinitely and all players need to escape on an elevator or weld an unbreakable door when they finally regroup.

The players would have the choice of sending 2 to activate the turrets and 2 to open the slow doors. The turrets will be a great help defending the 2 opening the doors, but the team will be separated during the regrouping part of the mission.

Or they can stay together and all go through Door B but won't get any help from the turrets.

I already mentioned this somewhere else but , Hubs.

Example : you get to hub one and you get 4 choices to go :

-1- Goes to a dead end , a trap if you wish.
-2- Goes to a weapon cache
-3- Goes to Hub 2
-4- Goes to Hub 3
----------------------------------

Those hubs then lead to other levels , which lead to other hubs , etc.

Hope this was simple enough to understand the idea. ^^;

One idea I have is to create a mission with two different story lines, ala Call of Duty style. At one point the missions would "overlap" each other and become the same storyline and I thought of having both "groups" sacrifice two of their players in a scene like "plant explosive charges that are very volatile to alien pheromones so stay behind and protect them" in order to make the joinup more cohesive.
