Hi my computer specs are:
2.5 dual core
4gig ram
9600gt
Windows 7

Whilst I realise this is a very low level computer I was able to run Arma 2 on medium-low settings at 1680x1050 and get a good 25fps.

With arma 2 operation arrowhead I can only get 10fps on 1280 x 800 with all the settings on the lowest possible. What is going on? Surely theyre must be something up, or does the game just take way more power to run than arma 2??

any help would be appreciated

For me Arma2OA runs much better then Arma 2.

Try to add -cpucount=2 at start up parameters or install latest beta patch: http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php

You can play online with that beta patch. Arma2OA is not currently patched to Arma2 1.07 level. With this beta patch it should be. Give it a try.

The only thing that would hold it back is your 2.5D.C, but that shouldn't cause to many problems, if you are going to update your equipments drivers, first role back the old drivers, people seem to not bother doing this and it can hamper performance.

OA works a lot better for me than the original ArmA 2, so I cannot help you. Try to google your problem, that may be useful.

The video card is also quite outdated.

But like the person above said, OA runs better than ARMA2 for most people, so there seems to be something wrong with your install.

Mate, I run very similar specs on my laptop:

2.53Ghz Core2Duo
4Gb RAM
9800M GTS
Windows 7 x64

I'm able to run the game at 1280 with settings on medium-high with an average online around 35fps, but it never dips below 20 at the worst. Make sure you are running <60 processes (if possible), try the -cpucount, update your NVidia drivers, and maybe defrag the HDD?

Very true but I'm only running a 9800GT, but prior to that I was running the same card as above with a decent frame rate and graphics.

Try re-connecting.

I stepped over some rocks the wrong way and my frames dropped to like 10 for about 15minutes before I decided to shut the game off and restart it.
