Is it true you get banned for using cheats in single player cause thats what ive been hearing.
Cheats or hacks? Cheats, no, since they ship with the client. Hacks (in single-player), yes, since the single-player runs off the Battle.Net service.

He was using hacks that also apply to the multiplayer aspect. Most everyone else using this hack were using it in mp, but he only played single player. He still was using the hack though, so he got banned along with everyone else using the hack even though he never played mp.

Personally, I think it's a very stupid move. They aren't being careful because they're overconfident.. but their false sense of security will lead to their downfall..
A company can tumble to it's death much like a stone falling into an ocean.
Basically, if they keep treating their fanbase like this, it'll backfire, and the fanbase will destroy the company.
He still was using the hack though, so he got banned along with everyone else using the hack even though he never played mp.
A clientside trainer should NOT work in a multiplayer game. If it does, the programmers are failures and are the ones to be blamed.
(Which makes me ponder about how they got a job in the first place..)

I am so proud to kill 33 medivacs with a thor on each one And proud of destroying 25 battlecruisers out of 33 with using Seeker missiles from ravens

Indeed.
People won't see the danger of this unless it effects them though. People will go on swallowing the erosion of their consumer rights (or any rights really) until one day they want it effects them and they say "oh, what happened?"

There is no point having an achievement system if you can cheat to get them. Hence the bans. You can't ruin it for everyone else just because you want to cheat.

Because the singe-player is linked directly to your online progression - your achievements - and so hacking the single-player would be hacking the online service. Quite straight forward.
Hacks are hacks. There are single-player cheats in the game for you to enjoy, so I would not see why you would want hacks in the first place.

There is no point having an achievement system if you can cheat to get them. Hence the bans. You can't ruin it for everyone else just because you want to cheat.
Then ban people from the online community features, not the entire game. No one should lose their singleplayer game ever, no matter what the stupid EULA says. That goes for Steamworks, Impulse and whatever other "games as a service" platform too.

I would agree, if your single player performance wasn't recorded and ranked against the performance of other people online, which essentially turns it into a pseudo multiplayer.
There is an offline mode if you don't want achievements and the game even has built-in cheats.

Almost halved damaged vs. buildings seems like overkill to me. They were powerful in team games but not that useful in 1v1 as it was.

I play in the SEA region and I just logged onto the Battle.Net website and it said "Add Free" Starcraft II account for the US region, so I can finally play with you guys (however, on a separate account, so I don't have my achievements and portraits that I do with my SEA account).
I was under the impression, as it said in-game, that you had to buy a new retail box. But if you just go to the website and add a US-SCII for free, which should appear under your SEA account, you can hop right in.

The Barracks dependency was unnecessary, in my opinion. I have a feeling that it was to add to the Reaper nerf, but it kind of throws a lot of openers off... especially with TvZ. They should have just made Reapers only able to be built with a Factory, or made the Nitro upgrade more expensive... it just seems a bit much, especially when Terran are supposed to be able to quickly adapt to any situation.
The Void Ray and Medivac nerf is good, though. Also happy about the Zerg buffs, looking forward to 1v1'ing Zerg more often (as a challenge against them, not because I play them).

I don't see how the Zerg buff to buildings will do that much. If they're in your base and killing you, you're most likely done for it.
I was thinking more of the likes that Marauders was going to get a nerf.
Honestly, 20 damage to armor and slowing down enemies on hit with a upgrade that cost 50 minerals+gas and they have 125 HP is not my view of balance. While they do 10 to normal it still doesn't make much difference. Most normal type monsters have low on health.
The nerfs that was made to Terran will most likely not be noticed. Don't think it will make any differences though.
The void ray nerf might have been a bit too much though.

Yea I think the void ray nerf should be slightly less. The building buff will give you more time to react and build up more forces or get your forces in there so they can't as easily just snipe off a building with a drop.
I also agree the marauders a tad OP.

This has nothing to do with the current flow of conversation but I was just an hour into a match and Windows 7 decided to close SC2 because it was using too many resources.

Because I know MLG won't get a VOD of the huk game up for awhile. The TL forum was basically a live chat during the whole time.
It breaks down like this:
Between games, the camera is on Huk and seleCT.
Game starts, but they don't switch camera to the game.
Crowd starts chanting "Show the game! Show the game!"
This is where it all starts. Huk has been known to mothership rush in tournements before, and thought that they were chanting "mothership! Mothership!"
Huk loves to please the crowd, seleCT had just delivered a beating to him, and another one is probably coming. Also, if he wins the match he plays Idra again, who beat him handily earlier. Thinking the crowd is chanting for him to go mothership, even though they are not, he decides to go mothership.
By this time the camera crew has the feed back on the game, and we see Huk lay down a gateway, then a cyber, then a stargate... The crowd is now very very intersted.
Stargate finishes, fleet beacon goes down and the crowd explodes.
Oh, and this whole time huk is also chatting in game about the crowd chanting motheship, how he can't go mothership because select would expect it, yada yada yada.
Fleet beacon finishes and up in the production tab we see a mothership.
cue crowd explosion #2.
Crowd starts chanting "Huk! Huk! Huk! Huk! Huk! Huk! Huk!"
During all this, select is making a push. Huk has diverted huge amounts of resources into this tech path and has a very small army.
Mothership pops and the sound blasts the roof off. Huk, trying to play it off types, "Don't worry, thats halo" (http://i.imgur.com/98Eko.png) as select lays down the perfect scan over huks mom and army. Oh, if you didn't figure it out, there was a halo 3 tourney going on at the same time, and you could often hear the halo crowd from the SC2 area.
And then it all goes downhill. Huk manages to vortex his own units, then leaves the mom out of position and it gets sniped. He didn't have much of a chance anyway because of how many resources he put into making the mom.
Regardless, Huk is now the hero of thousands of starcraft nerds everywhere.

Haha, you really loved that game. I gotta admit, it was pretty cool. You forgot the part where after he built the Stargate and the crowd cheered, he said (paraphrasing of course) "dont worry, its carriers"
On another note, watching all this StarCraft made me play again for the first time in a month and a half. I played VERY little multiplayer since I played some in beta and so I only had a few games, which were bad, and was placed in Silver. Just played a few games, ♥♥♥♥♥ some faces, and am happy to say I got pushed up to gold =D And Platinum is a possibility, I was #1 in my gold division in beta for along time.
Watching these guys helped. Seeing how they react and all that.. Also, I didn't realize that you could group buildings. Makes SCVs and Barracks production go much smoother.

Well I for one like Idra. He just lets his opponents wear themselves down while out-macroing them. Although his final games against select were complete walk-overs and not hugely entertaining.
The best plan against him is to attack early and force him into a micro situation like what happened at IEM. I suppose since the patch that is very difficult for a terran.
I did like the Banelings chasing the marines in game 2 on Xel Naga caverns. So awesome (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zck4GkL_ISg#t=10m27s)

Just played a game after a few days of absence, not too bad. Thought id share it with you guys. ZVT action on Metalopolis. I tried something new I learned from TLO : 3 hatch expand. Lets say it worked wonders :D I will try to work a build around this. It has potential to be very destructive.

Just played a game after a few days of absence, not too bad. Thought id share it with you guys. ZVT action on Metalopolis. I tried something new I learned from TLO : 3 hatch expand. Lets say it worked wonders :D I will try to work a build around this. It has potential to be very destructive.

Huk had a great tournament. He went all the way to the fight with idra without losing a match. Then lost so select in the losers bracket, then mothership rushed to become a crowd fav.

Just played a game after a few days of absence, not too bad. Thought id share it with you guys. ZVT action on Metalopolis. I tried something new I learned from TLO : 3 hatch expand. Lets say it worked wonders :D I will try to work a build around this. It has potential to be very destructive.

well they used to have lan, just not in SC2, because everything is Bnet now, even the missions.

I was actually in the Silver league after playing about 8 games when the game came out. I quit for over a month, came back, played like 5 games, and got put into Gold. Then I played 2 games this morning and it put me in Platinum =D

Assign armies AND building such as army producing building (barracks, gateweays) and main bases (command center, nexus) to numbers (1, 2, 3, etc.) This will significantly reduce how often you forget to make units. Using control groups changed me from struggling to get into gold to easily getting into Platinum.***
-Scout. Most people think scouting is entering their base right at the beginning and leaving, which is wrong. Go in, see what they have, and either harass (attack) or leave. Go back in 30 seconds later to see what's different. Keep doing until they have something to kill your scout.
-Micro. Learn how to properly fight with your race. With Terran, if you're being attacked by melee, click to walk backwards, hit S to make them stop and take 1 shot, then move back again, hit S, and repeat. With Protoss, use sentries to make force fields and split the enemy army in half so you can take the army out one half at a time.
-Learn proper build order. Watch tutorial videos on YouTube to see what should be built first. This only really helps for the first couple minutes because after that, you should be decided what to do next based on what the enemy's race is and what the enemy is doing.
-Expand. If you focus only on army, if the enemy can hold off your attack after expanding, you almost certainly lost the game.
-Backdoor. Use Medivacs and other carriers units to bring your army into the back of the enemy's base and unleash on his base from behind. Make sure you know when to retreat into your carrier. Also, some maps have destructible rocks that lead into the back of the enemy's base. Use these to get in their base.
-Harass. Use reapers and zerglings to get a quick unit early in the game into the enemy's base and harass them. In late game, use ghosts, banshees, dark templars, and burrowed units to harass. Note that in lower leagues, these techniques can actually win the game. In higher leagues, this will only bother and/or slow down enemy production.

Thanks, I actually got the game because I got sick on Gas Powered Games and Supreme Commander 2. They wern't banning the people who were cheating. I just got sick and tired of it.

Watch day[9]daily #132 (http://day9tv.blip.tv/file/3732340/) (really starts around 5 minutes in, but blip TV doesn't let you jump ahead :( )
Essentially this:
1) Keep your money low
2) Never ever get supply blocked
3) Always be building workers
4) Always be building units (army)
5) Use hotkeys for EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!
You can practice all of these using this multitasking trainer (http://www.sc2mapster.com/maps/multitasking-trainer/). If you are having a hard time, modify the map so that there is a wall between proberto and the zergling.
For now, forget micro. Until you get to diamond, most games (that don't involve cheese) come down to how well you can macro.
Don't forget to watch more day9dailies (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=104154), they are incredibly helpful! His shows are sun-thurs from 7pm to around 8pm PST.
And he's incredibly entertaining!

?Generally in a bracket they "seed" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrkSElfm7Lk&feature=player_embedded#t=0m35s) players so that those players who are better are matched up against easier opponents early, and then later are faced against each other. Basically in the first round, the #1 player faces the worst, the #2 player is against the 2nd worst, and so on. They are also placed far apart on the bracket, so that there is a lesser chance of the 2 best players meeting before the finals.

Well obviously the build alone won't win you the game, it requires some micro too. Also, if your opponent knows it's coming it can be countered.

also wondering if anyone knows what the specs are on those pcs they use, +what mice, keyboards, headsets the best players use... curious which players use super cheap gear that they're good on instead of the most expensive stuff...

Hey, is there any one down for a few training 1v1s? I'm a complete n00bz0r and I seriously need to pick up the basics of the game. Don't forget that you still got two leagues ahead of you in Gold. It's not that great.
Practice is the only way to go, we've all had losing streaks and bad days. Learn from your mistakes :D

Keep your money below 400 (unless you are expanding)
You do this by tapping your unit producing structure hotkeys and worker producing structure hotkey to make sure there is something being built.
Then check your supply to makes sure you aren't going to get supply blocked. If you need to build something, grab your builder (you have him hotkeyed, right) and build > hold shift > back to minerals.
Then glance at your cash. If its getting high and you're building from all your unit producing structures, then expand or build more unit producing structures.
For the time being, this should be the focus of your game. Hotkey your army to 1 control group and just attack command toward them. you can watch all the series for free, but you have to do it live. this is usually problematic because of the massive time difference. for the vods, the first hit of the series is always free. after that you require a season pass, which is $20 the first time you order it and $15 every time after that.

Happy with some of the changes, but I'm a bit concerned about the bunker build time decrease. For most mediocre players, it can be quite hard to depend against a marine/reaper bunker rush, since it requires you to pull harvesters off the line (and most people are quite apprehensive about it.). Although... I'm pretty concerned about pheonix rushes. I've seen some fantastic use of early pheonix... but thank god infestors can't attack air units anymore, been quite annoyed about that.
Also happy about the chat channels extreme graphics option and mouse button for push-to-talk (finally).

General
* Battle.net Chat Channels have been added! Players can now join others in both public and private channels.
o Added in-game chat bar command to whisper to other players. Using the "/w" command will open up a list of available friends, party members, chat channels, and other players within your current game.
o Added Battle.net option to auto-join previous private channels.
o Added Battle.net option to prevent chat channel text from appearing in in-game chat display.
* A new Master League has been added! This league now represents the highest tier of players.
* Customizable Hotkey Support has been added.
* Stalemate Detection has been added. This will end the game in a tie for all remaining players if no players have income, production, or destroyed structures for three consecutive minutes. A countdown timer will now appear when the game detects this scenario.
* An Extreme graphics option is now available. Players can now configure screen space ambient occlusion.

* Several help dialogue and tech tree improvements have been made:

Good to know. I haven't really followed Blizz all that much ever. If it is SC though I hope they call it something very different than World of Starcraft. :p

Didn't know it got shut down..that's a shame.
Hmm i doubt it means titan is SC related, it could simply be because they're still hoping to someday make a SC MMO, even if it's the next decade.
As much as i like SC, i'd prefer world of diablo :3

sorry, it started jan 2nd. you have A LOT to catch up on so go here (http://www.justin.tv/tpfour/videos), the beginning of the season is on the 18th page. there have been some insane matches so far, and recently gomtv has been breaking due to the amount of people trying to watch.
even if you don't watch the whole season just go back and watch slayersboxer vs hyperdub.

in regards to the c&d for the world of starcraft mod:
"The Deputy General Council from Blizzard contacted me last night to discuss the details of the 'World of Starcraft' project," Winzen said on Wednesday. "We talked for a while and apparently some people from Blizzard were concerned I was developing the game somehow outside of SC2. Anyways I explained the details of the project to him and made it clear this mod was to be developed within SC2."
He went on to reveal an interesting little tidbit. "After that was clear he obviously wanted the name to be changed," he added. "I'm trying to work with him to get the name StarCraft Universe (currently in holding by Mille25) or StarCraft Chronicles. I am fully respectful of Blizzard's Intellectual property, and they DO in fact own a copyright on 'World of StarCraft' and have EVERY RIGHT to do what they did. If I want to continue this project I'm at the mercy of Blizzard's good graces since they OWN it all."
At this point, the MMORPG still looks to be alive and kicking as long as it remains within StarCraft II and doesn't use the World of StarCraft name. However, despite whether the mod lives or dies, the project and accompanying attention from Activision Blizzard has caught the eye of game developer/publisher Riot Games (League of Legends).
"When I see a modder with a lot of drive that has done something cool, I tend to contact them," said Zileas, Design Director of Riot Games. "I shot him an email recently asking if he was interested in exploring an opportunity here. As to what comes of that, who knows -- that depends on the mutual fit and his own goals."
Winzen said that the developer contacted him for a potential position in game design. "I'm not special though I will have to go through the application process and testing like everyone else, and this is not a 100-percent guaranteed thing, and I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do at the moment," he admitted. "There's a lot going on outside of what I've even mentioned here."

it's been 10 years and people keep playing the first one a lot. the second one will stuill be alive for a while, especially after all the 2 expansion come out and msot bugs are fixed.
prooving that SC2 is a great game compared to many modern game (even if i barely play it)

It does just fine. The Matchmaking is more solid than any other game I think, they now have chat channels so its easier to find certain people now and its pretty painless to add friends.
