View Full Version : Possible Solution: CoH not launching/needing re-install/'verify integrity' every time

I think that I've found the solution to the game not launching issue some have had that requires re-installing or 'verifying integrity of game cache' each time.

If the Relic Downloader (found at: {install dir}\Steam\steamapps\common\company of heroes\RelicDownloader\RelicDownloader.exe) is allowed access to the internet the game will not launch for me.

After blocking it in my firewall I've not had a problem nor have I needed to re-install/'verify game cache' since.

RelicDownloader is apparently a p2p-based patcher added in retail patch 2.400 that is started during the launch process. It is likely causing file inconsistencies with the Steam version which is why you then need to re-install or 'verify integrity'.

It appears RelicDownloader.exe can be safely deleted or renamed to avoid it running at all, or blocked via a firewall.

If others that have had to 'verify integrity' to be able to launch can confirm this please reply to this thread and I can then raise it to Steam Support for further investigation (or at least to the FAQ so others can find it easily).

Thanks.

Im getting this right now, going to try the fix. hope it works.
says all files 100% downloaded. but they are highlighted yellow with update paused on COH, Download paused on COHOF & COHToV.
What to do ?
also shows that they are all suspended in the downloads tab.

No Joy. Not Working :( guess i need to ask support

I had the same problem. Did the verify integrity check, then it downloaded 2+ gigs of files, and then it worked. I've removed the Relic Downloader, so hopefully that'll solve the problem for the future.

I've found that Steam does this more of late, during an install/update the download queue will switch from 'downloading' to 'suspended', and clicking 'resume' does not start it downloading again. Re-starting Steam usually finishes the install/update.

If you have already run CoH without blocking the Relic Downloader then it is likely that you will need to 'verify integrity' again.

quote OP...

I only had to do an integrity check the first time I downloaded it. The game indeed like OP describes would not start up at all. It was missing 10 files and it auto uploaded/updated the game 2.1Gb, since then it works fine for me.

I am having a similar/same issue, when I launch the game via steam, the launch box appears for 1 second then disappears. It doesn't launch at all. I have attempted deleting relic downloaded, but to no avail. Could I get some help upon this subject? Do I need to re-install the game?

Verify the game cache on steam. And running steam with admin right might do the trick.
