GREAT news.

Oh, and one other note, we will not be using GFWL on RFA. We'll be using Steamworks this time around.

Confirmed by the developers: http://community.redfaction.com/forums/topic/8372#comment-69914

The point now is to see what features exactly they are going to use...

I fail to see how this is good one way or the other. I've got no doubt that Steamworks is 1,000% more stable than GfWL, but isn't it all a form of DRM anyway? All this is doing is forcing people to use Steamworks.

..And if people have a problem with that then it's their loss. It's great to see more games moving from GFWL to Steamworks! First New Vegas and now this. I love it!

I don't really like mandatory software, but if they're going to include something, I prefer it to be Steam rather than GFWL.

still, what Capcom (incompletely) did with Dark Void was good: there was the normal version and they did a specific GFWL version for the Xbox players; the only version missing was the Steamworks-enabled one.

That would be acceptable, except it wouldn't work in games that featured multiplayer. Steamworks/GFWL main feature is a multiplayer client. Splitting into two version would split the communities.

hes a well known gfwl fanboy and hes pretty pissed that devs are finally coming to their senses and ditch gfwl, its losing terrain FAST to steamworks, yay!

Considering Homefront is getting GFWL instead, this might just be THQ trying 'em both and see which one gets better feedback.

If you don't like steam, then don't buy games off of it, go the store and buy the retail box.

what's steamworks?

what's steamworks?

Basically, it locks all copies of a game (Download or Retail) to a steam account.

It can also bring matchmaking, Steam Cloud, Achievements, and some other things, too.

My main problem with GFWL is that it seems to have an install limit that no one will admit to or help with.

Ehm.. you have to install Steam to actually play the game, a lot of the times? :)

The install limit problem goes away with the SSA keys, which are being used now for newer games. Other than that, you can call to have the key reset or use an offline profile that doesn't require activation at all.

I dont think people should be on these forums unless they use STEAM, I dont have a single problem with STEAM until it stops letting me play games offline, and when/if that happens ill probably stop using STEAM aswell, atm I prefer STEAM over GFWL, even though I also have no issues with GFWL now that I figured out how to make an offline account.. I dont care about most multiplayer parts of single player games, so I dont need a different online GFWL account..

STEAM/STEAMworks all the way!

I'm happy to see this more, as well. I hope they use dedicated servers for multiplayer.
