if you look in the \data\shipnames folder you will see a bunch of text files. Those are the random ship names. You can just add a new text file there, and it will show up a selectable category for naming ships.
If you edit the files in \races you can set each race to use those names as the default :D

This game reminded me of Master of Orion. The combat and ship building part. Without planets, colonies, economy and diplomacy. Just the combat part.
Actually this is the reason why i bought it anyway. I liked this part a lot.
Building ship is fun and then taking your own creations into combat is even better.

This game reminds me of Carnage Heart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnage_Heart), but in space and with 1/10 the time needed for pre-battle setup.

This game reminds me of Battleships Forever with less customization and more...well, gratuitous space battles. =)

This game is better though because there are limits on everything you make. BF is just a sandbox game so it's really easy to just make an unstoppable deathbox. Hell, I made a ship shaped like a sword that instakilled everything it touched. >_>

When playing GSB with friends, there's actually strategy involved, rather than seeing who can stack the most weapons in the same space.
