Does anyone know if this will support a gamepad out of the box or will we have to use joypad etc. as from the posts I saw on their official forum for past titles, controllers weren't supported out of the box...

No, this game would not work properly with a controller. You need the accuracy of the mouse.

Why would anybody use a gamepad for this? Gamepads are only useful for driving and sports games, And Mortal Kombat like games...

...and to take the scariness out of a game. At least for me playing scary games is a lot easier with a gamepad :D

I agree but disagree. Mostly driving/sport games, and some RPGs. Playing FFVII with a keyboard just seemed wrong. Like trying to play an RTS with a controller.

No gamepad support please, it usually means compromise for the casual.

uh, what? People should be allowed to play the game with what's most comfortable for them. It's not that hard to separate gamepad controls and mouse and keyboard controls.

However for a game like this, implementing a comfortable gamepad scheme would take a lot more time than other first person shooting games (where all you really do is point and shoot)

You could use a program like Xpadder or joy2key (or pinnacle game profiler) and do it yourself. Each program is fairly straight forward, and after a few minutes tweaking you don't have to fiddle with it anymore. If you are really serious about wanting to play with your gamepad, don't always rely on the developer. Because this game is for PC and is an FPP game, I'd say the amount of people who actual use a joypad is quite low and not always worth the effort for the developer. It's similar for consoles, even though mice and kb are readily available, they are not always used by most games.

And for me that's a game built with the mouse and keyboard in mind.
Not dumbed down for people who want to play FP like a console. You are on a pc, if you want to play these types of games with a control pad, go on a console please. You wont be missed.

You must die every time we get a console port :D

I love the keyboard and mouse elitists. I personally use xpadder with the 360 controller for most singleplayer aspects of games. I've found I'm just as fast on the controller for most things and its definitely more comfortable. I just beat and played STALKER SOC on the hardest difficulty with the controller. If any game needs precision headshots, its that game.

So please if you don't like pc users using a controller, keep it to yourself. And to those that do like using a controller, I highly recommend xpadder and the 360 controller. Xpadder is very configurable, as you can set toggles, every keyboard button, all mouse functions and even have one key toggle a whole new set of actions essentially doubling the buttons available on the controller.

Anyways, we are all gamers and the fanboyism is a little disheartening.

people playing first-person games with gamepads are doing it wrong

Playing this game with a gamepad would be hugely counter-intuitive. You have to be able to carefully manipuplate objects to complete puzzles, open doors, ect. Doing that with a gamepad would be nearly impossible.

EDIT: Also, this game is supposed to be intensely immersive and playing with a gamepad would kinda take you out of the horror since a lot of the immersion comes from realistic object manipulation.

By the way, Bobo has a point. Games (FPS most especially) built top-down to be played with a controller are ALWAYS dumbed down for the slow and clunky analogue stick so that when they are ported to the PC, those of us playing with the fast and precisionate mouse have to suffer an extremely easy game. For instance, most console games will rarely spawn enemies behind you because the analogue stick is too slow to do a quick 360 turn. For a PC, on the other hand, this is not a problem. Personally, I cannot fathom forcing myself to use a gamepad for an FPS when I could just use a mouse.

so much this.
I have x360 wireless pad, I love it for games like Just Cause 2 or NFS Shift or for driving in Mafia 2...but for straight up first person games, mouse is just unbeatable. I wish consoles would ship with mouses by default and first person games would not have to be constrained by analog sticks.

And platformers and hack-and-slash (e.g. Devil May Cry) and anything else that doesn't require precise aiming or selection.

I would argue that you can do pretty precise aiming with a controller. It all depends on your skill. You can react slightly faster with a mouse but other than that there is no real disadvantage in using a controller. Heck i play Counter Strike with a controller and i do just fine :P

I was bored one day and played Crysis with the 360 controller and it wasn't bad at all. in fact after about 30 minutes I liked it just as much as the kb/m but for different reasons. obviously nothing beats the mouse for precision but its nice to kick back with the controller and have everything at your finger tips. in fact games like RE 5 and Batman AA were much better for me on the controller because I could cycle through weapons and fight easier that way. and no I don't even own a console except for the Gamecube which was only purchased to play some Resident Evil games.

I only play gamepad for racing/sports/adventure games. By adventure I mean like Devil May Cry series, Final Fantasy series and etc. Any games that are using AIM, I required to play Mouse+Keyboard for a lot more comfortable and quicker responsive while aiming. At least that's for me.

Ha, the only console I have left is a Gamecube and it was bought for the EXACT SAME REASON. I've given up on most of my consoles, but the GC ain't going anywhere. I love me some Resident Evil, the remake is one of my favorite games of all time.

Playing Amnesia with a pad seems like it would be really awkward. You kinda need to the precision of a mouse to manipulate stuff in the environment, but I would love to be able to use a controller in my left hand just to use the analog stick for movement.

If you're really dead-set on playing with a controller, though, there's plenty of third-party programs that can allow you to map keys/mouse movement to a gamepad. My personal favorite is Pinnacle Game Profiler for its simplicity and costumer support, but it isn't freeware like Xpadder and Joy2Key.

steam community can't be this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
poeple playing FPS games on XBOX360 with gamepad
all PC games should support gamepad
BioWare fails hard because of that (they design games for XBOX but don't put gamepad compatibility on PC which is way too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥)

playing a game with keyboard and mouse is pointless while you have gamepad with force feedback etc
I just finished Bulletstorm (on normal difficulty which never gave me any problem) with gamepad and I can't think how ridiculous would it be to play it with Keyboard+mouse without forcefeedback and with keys away from each other

The only controller that would work properly with this would be one of those fancy Razer Sixthsense thinguies, because they are as fast as a mouse, with the proper settings. And well, they can do properlly all you have to do here: Move, look around, pick things, rotate them, move them closer of away from you, throw them, crouch, run, and work as a mouse in the menus.

But I wouln't get that controller just for one game, not even for a few games. It either works with an Xbox360 controller, or you just use a mouse. You pick the one that works best, which is usually mouse with first person games and those that require quick movements of a pointer(FPS and strategy/puzzle games being the best examples), and gamepad with third person ones and those that require quick movement centered in a character but no need to target things quickly or control where you are looking at(fighting games and platformers being best examples of this), and that's it.

Not all games are good with a gamepad. FPS, for instance get EXTREMELY dumbed down when they are 'controller enabled'.
