Hello everyone,

My video card is a GTX280 (latest drivers installed) and it plays Mafia 2 demo very well.
Everything (apart from Physx) is at high and the game is smooth BUT my temperatures go to 80 Celsius (and sometimes beyond) in an instant.
Now, the card has been recently cleaned and I don't recall any other game making my card work so hard.
I need to manually set my fan to 100% to keep it somewhat cool. I tried setting everything as low as possible but nothing changes, it still is hot as hell.

I really don't know what to do about those temps (besides keeping my fan at 100% while playing the game).

Anyone else has noticed their temps. go high in the demo + any advice of what to do?

Well if you are running everything on max I'm sure the GTX 280 will go somewhat warm no matter what you try. Since that is a big load for your card.

I am using the GTX 275 and I don't really have an heating issue @ High settings.. But I got good cooling in my Case. (Antec 1200)

I would turn off AA becos it wont do you anything in this DEMO atm, but eat you're FPS... try that and chek again.

Thanks for the reply.
I tried setting everything to low and nothing changes. The card still goes to ~80C. I can play any other game (BC2, GTA IV, AC2 etc.) and temperatures are perfectly fine, but not so in this case.

I'm afraid (and pretty sure) that the same will be with retail.

Hmm that's just wiiiierd.

Mite be an Driver issue tho.. Are you using a BETA vs or something?

Any case i would just reinstall latest from http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us&ptid=1&psid=51&pid=0 And try again. Something is telling your GFX to run at Turbo mode. lal :D

The card is designed to run at 80% Celsius, but the cooler the better :) But if you are worried about Temperature, you really should consider buying one of Zalman's Vga coolers as they work wonders. They may seem a bit expensive but they are much better than the stock coolers.
I lived with temperatures at about 80% for a year, but I never had peace of mind, but that helped after I slapped on a Zalman cooler, it's quiet and cool.

But remember to dust off your pc occasionally, especially if you play a lot of games for several hours pr. session.

I'm using the latest 258.96 WHQL. :)

maul_inc01, I read about average temps when I got that card and that ~80 is somewhat safe. But as you've said, the cooler the better.
I'm just curious as to why this one game makes my card go crazy and other games do not. ;)

Anyway, guess I'll have to live with it or change the cooler.

Cheers.

Sejf, what program are you using to measure the temperature?
