Fall out vegas is coming out before this......what is taking them so long to just get a side scroller working.

Because it's only two people making over 300 levels with achievements, unlockables, and cutscenes. Last time I checked it takes longer for two people to make a game than a team of over 20. *Sorry for the harsh tone in this comment, I don't mean for it to be there.*

Obsidian has 135 employees.
Edmund McMillen has his beard.

That's a nice way of putting it, trust me.

Oh. Didn't know only 2 people were working on it........But still. How could they miss judge a release date by 1 year?

The game was supposed to be half the current size, that'd be a factor. And the official release date has always been "when it's done".

As stated, not only does the game have no less than twice the amount of content that was originally planned, there have also been personal issues, like a spot of illness for one of the two developers. It's not like at a giant developer, where if any one artist or programmer is lost, they can easily be replaced with another. This game is a labor of love by two people (plus a contracted musician), who aren't constrained by all the usual corporate garbage, and thus, are free to really make this the game they want it to be.
As Miyamoto said...a delayed game eventually comes out, but a bad game is bad forever.

Because it's too difficult to playtest unless they have a LOT of practice

One McMillen beard > 135 Obsidian employees.

I bet his beard's programming skills aren't as high as 135 Obsidian employees though. Sorry if I'm like blaspheming or anything here though. The beard is > most in terms of awesome though, but awesome doesn't program.

Maybe because they decided to make the game even better. Also just two people working on this is amazing. this is not "just a sidescroller game" It's hard work too.
Just because it's 2D doesn't mean it's easier than 3D. 3D is a lot easier for a bunch of things, 2D for others.
And it's worth it, I have the 360 version and will get this one too to support them, indie devs rule

Actually, I'm pretty certain it's because of their deal with Microsoft.. A timed exclusivity thing. If I remember correctly they even said MS didn't want them making the PS3 -version after Sony actually expressed interest. Same with games like Worms Reloaded, aka Worms 2 Armageddon on XBOX Live Arcade. You'd be amazed how many times this is the case. MS seems to love timed exclusivity deals. Limbo, Braid etc...
Sure, they ARE making extra content etc. for the Steam-version, but that's just them being super awesome.
