When I bought this during the steam summer sale, it's been giving me terrible performance with every thing on low and Shader Model set to 2.0. Advanced PhysX and Hardware physics also disabled. (About 5-10 fps.) Also I would get this terrible control lag. (About 1-2 seconds from when I pushed the button to when the character actually did something.)

I thought it would be amusing to change Shader Model to 4.0 to see how much worse it would perform. Was I surprised! My frame rate went up to 25-30 fps and the control lag completely disappeared!

I haven't increased graphics options yet as it is 3:00 am where I am, and I need to get to bed

I have however tried turning Hardware Physics and Advanced PhysX on. Not really a performance drop, but the control lag came back.

Also, my specs are:
Pentium Dual-Core E5300 @ 2.6 GHz
1 GB DDR1 RAM
GeForce 9500 gt (1 GB)
Win 7 ultimate, 32 bit

I am so happy right now

is shader model 4.0 only a vista 7 thing cuz on xp you can only set it to 2. also this game only uses one core so you might want to set affinty top your core that is stonger

Shader model 4 is simply DX10, so Vista and 7 can run it.

No, I know Shader Model 4.0 is a DX10 thing, I'm just confused as to why it runs better when set to 4.0 instead of 2.0.

No idea. It runs worse for me. Since this game is so poorly optimized, I'd just say it's a quirk more than anything. I guess you should be happy it runs well on DX10.:D

Shader Model 3 works on XP as well. I think that was the big deal with DX9...
