Hello folks. I've been working on a map for Alien Swarm over the past few days, overcoming odd errors from time to time but fixing them. When it comes to adding lights, however, I'm absolutely flummoxed. It seems silly that lighting should cause the problems it is.
I was working on my map with no lights, leaving the in-game brightness to the default. Once I added a light, the ground became super-bright, blanking out most of the map.

By getting rid of the light and turning on mat_fullbright 1, it returned to the way it was before, but with bright glowing spots on the wall and pillars that were not present before I added and deleted the one light.

To check to see if it was the map or something to do with Hammer, I whipped up a fast test map with a floor, 4 walls and a structure_seal func_brush around everything. A light at 50 brightness was very bright, so setting it down to 20 brightness gave me this: (http://a.imageshack.us/img834/382/light1.jpg)
When I threw a flare, it glowed an intense white light that blocked out even my character when standing over it: (http://a.imageshack.us/img834/3038/light2.jpg)
When I used a flashlight, it glowed with the same bright intensity as the flare. (http://a.imageshack.us/img834/5706/light3e.jpg)
I know that light is most definitely not supposed to do this. The flashlight in Jacob's Rest is not as blinding as the one I tested. The flares are not as super bright as the one I tested. What am I doing wrong? Can somebody help me?
