The real problem here is that UBISofts authentication servers are horrible and unreliable. When I bought Settlers 7 I was unable to play the game, it took a few weeks before I was finally able to play it. I constantly read the official forums on UBISofts website and countless players had the same issues, and UBISoft ignored all of them. It wasn't just Settlers 7 either, it was all of their games using this new DRM.
And beyond that, all of their games so far have been successfully cracked and pirated within a very short amount of time. I really don't understand why this DRM is still around, it doesn't work.
