Here's a list of what I tried:

Installing Microsoft C++ 2005 Redistribute

Verifying integrity of game cache

Reinstalling

Rebooting

2 step process

1. Verifying integrity of game cache

2. so what is happening is for some reason either your Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable is being corrupted or installing other programs are messing with certain files in Visual C++ 2005.
so uninstall any copies of Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable. NOT Visual C++ 2008 leave that. once they are all removed that's 2005 versions you need to install the correct version and that's based off what type of windows you are running 32 bit or 64 bit. so 32 bit = vcredist_x86.exe and 64 bit = vcredist_x64.exe do not install vcredist_IA64.exe. download the one that's right for you and then your game should start up as it did for me after numerous times trying to solve it.here is the link to Microsoft's site to download it.

That's pretty unfortunate, I had a similar problem with my games after I swapped my OS, verifying content showed a few missing files and downloaded them.

You could try contacting support and see they can help.

try my solution as i posted earlier. i found out after installing certain programs it was corrupting or change files in Visual C++ 2005 so when i uninstalled all versions of 2005 not 2008 and then reinstalled the CORRECT version of C++ 2005 it worked every time. i wanted to reduplicate the crashing so i did i found out a Video editing software i was installing was installing Visual C++ 2005 that either altered files or corrupted them.

Alright, I'm trying that right now.

There seems to be quite a bit of c++ 2005 redistributable softwares. It won't take that long to uninstall all of them hopefully.
