View Full Version : If it uses VAC then who monitors it?

Some times with VAC it takes weeks to months for it to ban people that hacked on a previous date. Also sometimes they don't stay on top of it. Now my question is who will monitor it and update it, Valve or SD?

It's up to valve ... i think ..
just like MW2 (http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/64897)

VAC is automatic. Valve monitors it. Recently, VAC incorrectly banned some people and Valve fixed it by unbanning them and giving them a free game.

it would be the first time for splashdamage to use vac. i hope they go with punkbuster, or is vac confirmed?

VAC is confirmed. And never hope a game uses punkbuster. :(

If it won't have dedicated servers for MP/CO-OP it's gonna be an EPIC FAIL.

Splash Damage CEO Paul Wedgwood told the Eurogamer Expo audience in Leeds today that Brink would stick with dedicated servers on PC. SOURCE (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/brink-has-dedicated-servers-on-pc)

Hope this is 200% true. Without dedicated servers for PC and no admins it would be an EPIC FAIL like MW2.

dedicated servers have always been around, people confirming it now just leads me to think the game industry is getting more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

games that ex-clude them, which have been few, are normally terrible, and not too serious

VAC is great. a whole lot better than that stupid punkbuster. punkbuster kicks me for stuff like having steam overlay in CoD, and every time I join a server I lag like mad for about 2 minutes and again once the map changes, that's just absurd.

It has dedicated servers so it's VAC + Server bans ;)

The only time I have had issues with VAC not getting rid of enough cheaters/hackers or not getting rid of them fast enough is on Modern Warfare 2.

There are a few reasons for that though, one is that people who pirate MW2 still play with the people who bought it, and thus cannot be VAC banned! So just because of that there are a lot of cheaters and hackers on it.

However Brink with dedicated servers and such shouldn't suffer from this issue, just like TF2 and such, if you want to play on VAC servers you have to buy the game. It will probably (and hopefully!) be the same for Brink.

So yeah, the VAC system will be monitoring Brink along with each server's admins and mods ;)

Steam VAC is a fail , they dont care its simply there to shut people up when they ask if theres a anti-cheat .

Your argument is a fail. Read what VAC is and how it works before you make such stupid statements.

pb doesnt cause problems normaly, never did for me and using it since many years. it has lots of options for server admins, not sure vac hast that. and its known to be faster then vac. but better vac then no anticheat at all imho.

VAC + Dedicated Servers is better than Punkbuster + Dedicated Servers.

VAC - Dedicated Servers is worse than Punkbuster - Dedicated Servers

Well for one thing, valve stated that they ban hackers randomly between a week and a month after so the hack programmers won't be able to tell if the hack is detectable or not until like a month later which severely cripples their ability to make hacks quickly.

Agree with this one. Getting auto-kicked from Battlefield Heroes because I use windows 7 isn't funny :(

lol those cheaters are just as knowledgeable and professional at coding as Valve / VAC. They have an online business to run too, causing them to rewrite a few sniplits of banned code is hardly a crippling thing to them.

VAC + Dedicated Servers, admins
is as bad as
Punkbuster + Dedicated Servers, admins

Comparison

CS:S, DOD:S, TF2 + VAC = fail

CODMW4, BC2 + Punkbuster = Fail

Its still a no win no matter how its looked at...

The only difference is, now Valve/VAC can actively throw excuses and blame on the third parties developer and publisher that pay them for the service, just like the do with MW2 and no dedicated servers.

We dont really know how VAC work with a non-valve game, well...with MW2 that thing doest work so.

So if VAC is so great why is Homefront full of cheaters? I've haven't played HF, I just read their forum. And now I'm not talking about "I suck. That must mean he cheats." people.
I was going to preorder on D2D but then I saw it had VAC instead of PB. I've only had problems with PB once and I had to do a manual update.

People find it in the forum search and even Google search, then comment on the old thread. Search in Google for VAC Brink and you'll probably find this thread.

Yep, search. It was invited some months ago I think.
Why start a new thread? Maybe it was a newer thread about VAC but then the thread wasn't named correctly.
