Hey, I'm planning on a One Free Bullet run.. It's also my first run through the game after getting all the achievements in episode 0.
Am I allowed to use the pulse thing with the gravity gun? Or do I have to use thrown props?
Also, Any tips in general for this achievement?
Thanks.

Pulse thing? What pulse thing?
You can only fire one bullet, used to break the lock in Lowlife.
I don't remember the exact details, but anything goes, except for firearms.

Crossbow is not okay, from what I've read.

i just did this achievement this afternoon, use only the pistol to shoot off the lock in "low life" and fire no more bullets. you can still use unlimited crowbar, grenade and rocket launcher

yes flares are fine they are not bullets,
only bullets count you can use unlimited crowbars, gravity guns (using the "pulse thing" is called punting by the way), Grenades, RPGs, and unless im wrong smg grenades and AR2 pulse orbs.

I'm not sure about the SMG grenades or the Pulse Orbs. Does anybody know for certain? I know that when I did the achievement, I made sure not to use any guns whatsoever, just in case.

I'm pretty sure SMG grenades count as bullets because they are fired from the gun, as are pulse orbs.

SMG grenades and balls from the pulse rifle are okay. They are grenades.
Anything that fires objects/bullets such as handguns, the crossbow, and shotgun, is not allowed.
If you want, grab a hopper with the ZPEFM (or Gravity Gun) when you're in that pitch-black room and toss it at the lock. It will break as if you shoot it it.
Then out of curiosity, you can finish the game without firing a bullet once. More info here (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1389970).

Yup, I can second that the SMG grenades are fine.

I just did this achievement and got the popup as we escaped the city and the exploding tower on the train. You are only allowed to use:
() 1 bullet from a pistol or SMG.
() Gravity Gun (any purpose - punt, grab and launch anything, etc)
() The hand grenade (can be used with gravity gun as a launcher).
() The rocket launcher
() Crowbar
It was difficult (got alyx killed in the hospital section (I struggled to find anything to launch at these damn combine shotties) but I got the achievement in 2 hours.

It was difficult (got alyx killed in the hospital section (I struggled to find anything to launch at these damn combine shotties) but I got the achievement in 2 hours.
In desperation I ended up throwing office chairs and filing cabinets at the enemy. Often quite amusing if not successful!
For me the hardest bits were waiting for the elevator and later killing the antlion guard. Those would have been difficult whether one-bulleting it or not.
Sadly I didn't get zombieque so my next job in EP1 is to go back to lowlife and become fluent with flares. I've burned 4/15 before the elevator area so I think I should be ok.

I got all the achievements in the same play through. Some parts were tough and I had to act as a human shield for alyx to stop her from dying but I managed to beat it without her dying once. I died once or twice. One part being from the antlion guard but I managed to succeed in the end.

The barnacle room with the electrified water in the hospital has been most difficult so far. I ended up having to bring a radiator with me to punt at the barnacles which I thn kept losing underwater  Now I have to attempt Exit 17, which I get the feeling won't be easy.

Just attempting the achievements for the first time. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ but I'm having a hard time with the Antlion guard!
Funnily enough I started playing the game out of the blue having long since given up hope of the achievements coming to the PC version. I was completely taken by surprise when I achieved Watch Your Head.
Use the limited amount of explosive barrels conveniently placed in the exact location of the Antlion Guard battle wisely and sparingly. You need all of them to hit it, and then go wild with your crowbar. :D

You don't have the crowbar yet at this point in the game - Barney gives it to you some time later.
I managed this achievement but it was hard. Curiously the antlion guard ended up pretty much killing itself by making an explosive barrel fly and jumping right on the explosion! One of those weird moments certainly not planned by the game's makers.
It's fun doing those achievements - in some places it makes you realise that the game is easier than you thought. For instance the whole section of HL2 from the moment Grigori throws a shotgun at you to getting on that homemade "tram" is actually easier to do by running like crazy than by fighting. Same goes for the escort mission at the end of Ep1: if you run like crazy and constantly order the citizens ahead of you they pretty much stay out of trouble and Alyx will mop up any who come her way.
Only one to go for me in Ep1: 'zombie-que'. My problem is that though there are plenty of zombies to toast I just can't seem to find enough flares to do it. After playing this game many times I am still completely confused by the layout of the elevator room in Lowlife.
EDITED: zombie-que is in Ep1 not Ep2.

I saw a playthrough of that, and the guy reused flares--which would never have occurred to me. (Actually, I wouldn't even have thought to use them in first place...)
Here are the two parts of his walkthrough (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=silverRagout+lowlife&aq=f), if you want to watch. :)

I just did the One Free Bullet and I found that part to be difficult as well. There's one barnacle you can't get around right when you turn on the power, but I used a small health boost to have him grab it and get out of my way.
As it turned out, you can jump around all the other barnacles and not bother killing them at all. Just slide left and jump past them. Then, jump onto the pipes to the right from the middle platform, and from there jump into the room with the poisonous headcrab. Gravity gun the crap out of it, and you're golden.
Only annoying bit was that Alyx wouldn't kill the barnacles when I met up with her in the room above. So I just left them there and got on with it. :)
One Free Bullet tip: The rocket launcher is your friend.

For the barnacle room, the blue floater is a useful projectile.
A blue floater? That's unhealthy.

When I got out of the citatel in Ep 1, I had to use the Gravity Gun for helping Alyx to kill the Combine soldiers. It was basically just like "Zombie Chopper" achievement in HL 2. :P Had to use it for everything, until I got the Crowbar and the RPG. Ditched the Gravity Gun in no time :P
Also, pretty DAMN hard to do that in Hard mode, took me AGES to accomplish it: 7 to 8hours.
I clumsily span around looking for bits of crate to fling at the Combine. It probably didn't even affect them.

so what happens if you accidently shoot 2 or more. just reload to before where you got the gun or accidently shot it or.....?
Yeah... not much else to do, 'cept of course: *insert witty comment here*.

I mean will that get the achievement or do I have to clean a folder or something. Someone once said to rename or delete a file in a steam folder to reset the achievemnt. I think that was for lambda caches though.

Sorry for reviving this thread, but i have a question.
Does the mounted gun at the antlion guard nullify this achievement?

I did this achievement a year ago.You can use anything but bullets. Zombique must be achieved in Lowlife, where the areas are filled with flares. If you have any other questions regarding the achievements, just ask, i unlocked them all.

I just posted this elsewhere, but it seems queally releveant here, so:
Mines/hoppers, flares, exploding barrels, exploding canisters, grenades (thrown, not those launched as 2ndary fire from the sub), rpg-launchers, crowbar hits, picking up and aiming turrets, ZP energy busts and/or launching objects, thrown/dropped inanimate objects (such as tables) "physics"-based trap mechanisms (such as the machines in Ravenhome or crane off Highway 17) all do not affect this achievement.
However. Be ary of shooting any other weapon, even those that do not fire conventional 'bullets', such as, shotguns, plasma/energy weapons (excluding ZP Energy 'gun')
It's really not as difficult as it first sounds, only a little frustrating sometimes waiting for Alyx to shoot straight!
---
Addition: Don't use any of those mounted guns.

For those of you who have trouble getting through the electrified water. Just kill the barnacles before you turn on the power. It's very easy if you think about it. I did all the achievements in 3 days if i remember well. I achieved the last one on 28 may 2010. I wish there was a way to reset the echievements so i could do them all over again.

Read the description of the achievement in the achievement list. It will tell you exactly what is okay to use. Yes the gravity gun primary function (pulse thing)is okay. Quick save a lot.
