So, I'm simply adoring this game so far - you've pretty much got my day-one buy, fellas!

Question, though - would anyone know how long we can expect to play through it? :)

totally agreed. As soon as i can get together the cash i'm preordering. And a hearty thanks to the localisation team! Really appreciated, we need more quality content from the japan and particularly the indie scene to make it to the english speaking world!!!

Estimates for length i've heard - for the core story, about 15-20 hours (depending how much dungeon crawling you do obviously and whether you make a lotta mistakes) but then plenty of unlockable post-story modes to add extra playtime.

15-20 minimum sounds pretty good for 20 bucks. I was wondering about gameplay time, 20 bucks is a lot to a college student (18 for pre-order, w/e). If the demo didn't get me addicted I may have not be having a such a decision to buy it or not :P.

the sale ends when the game is released and at that time i doubt well see any bigger sales unless it sells a huge amount

Yes, we're estimating about 15 hours or so for the main five weeks of the game, and then there's plenty to do after the credits roll. Like two whole dungeons, one with 20+ story scenes attached plenty, plus a pair of challenge modes.

The game's $20 for a reason - we think there's plenty of content to justify the price.

Beyond the +10 hours of gameplay in the story I think the game is quite replayable just because it is fun. I know this is the only demo I have played 4 times over just trying to beat my "score" (money) each time around.

All honesty, the price has already justified itself. I've played the demo now for probably just under 4 hours and I'll be quite plain, there are AAA titles with not much more gameplay length than that for £30 [or £40 on consoles] (this is £11.69 or £14 when the sale is done).
I only need point out games like Kane and Lynch 2, which is notorious for only having around 5/6 hours. Modern Warfare 2 was atrociously short. My first playthrough was done on veteran and I'd finished it in just under 7 hours.

Think of how much time is spent in cutscenes on the larger games and it's easy to see that when you look at most games, value for money is almost always coming from the lesser known titles.

For $20 15 - 20 hours + extras is a great price.

I've already nearly spent more time playing the demo than I have spent playing Starcraft 2, and that cost over 6 times the price of this game :P

I'm guessing this will be equivalent to Plants vs Zombies in terms of content and replyability.

Incidentally, you could always sell your house and live in a cardboard box. They're quite cosy, ya know!

All games go down eventually ^^

But yeah, I want! :E

Thats only on the first play through too.

I could see this as my "wind down" game playing through it multiple times when I want to relax because I find it so fun.

When you "complete" the game, is that it? Or can you continue in sandbox style going for more treasure hunting in the dungeons and grinding?

I heard there's a survival mode with ever increasing debt, and a sandbox mode (I think) :)

I completely agree with you there.

This. I've already played the demo several times over (once with the less polished demo released a previously, and once with the demo from Steam). Happy to note that I did way better the second time, as opposed to the first where I just squeaked by.

As someone who has put quite a few hours into the Japanese version over the last two or three days, I can confirm that a minimum of 15 hours is pretty accurate. It took me just a bit over 9 hours to get through the first month. (More or less, depending on how much time you spend just running the shop versus dungeon diving, I suppose.)

After the debt is paid off, the game enters 'Endless' mode, where you just keep playing. Though as SpaceDrake pointed out, there's still plenty to do. :)

And there's also 'New Game +', if you ever beat Chrono Trigger, you know what this does. You start a new game with all the levels and items of the Save Data you choose to base it on.

Survival Mode has two difficulties, the harder of which looks pretty harsh. Basically, you start a completely new game, with an un-ending debt, so you have to always make increasingly larger payments every week. The goal is to see how long you last.

So, you definitely get your money's worth. :D

Whoa this description really sold the longevity to me. I just can't spend anymore on Steam games until the Holiday though since I just bought some stuff recently.

This game is in my wishlist though so I'm definitely getting it before the year is over. Until then the demo remains.

Endless mode, survival mode with 2 different modes, and a new game+!? Yeah I don't see myself quitting this game for a long time.
