Any chance we could see some steamcloud support?
I'm sure that would also ease the transition from the demo to the actual game since you wouldn't have to copy and paste the save file..
It also makes the game seem more serious for potential buyers and if you plan on releasing more games for steam it's a good idea to get familiar with it.

The problem here is much like the achievements problem (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1420614) - it is Rather Spiffy, but it requires code support, potentially a lot of it, and implementation and testing time. EGS handles all of Recettear's code themselves, and right now they're hip-deep or higher in work on their next big project. We ourselves really want that to be everything it can be, so we're trying to avoid burdening EGS with anything "frivolous" until next year.

That's unfortunate to hear. I imagine a game like this would benefit greatly from the Steam Cloud system. It would be great for people who want to play it at home on their desktop and "on-the-go" on their laptop, or elsewhere. The Steam Cloud system would definitely help the transitions for those players. But if it is as much of a hassle as you've pointed out for the time being, then it may be better off to wait as opposed to implementing a buggy or broken system.
And speaking of which, I did noticed that the Steam Cloud system only allows, at most, 10MB of synchronized files per game (based on the games I own). I find it interesting that the "save.dat" file for Recettear's demo alone is over 18MB. Assuming that the "save.dat" file is actually the game's save file, I could already see that this would be something that EGS would have to work on for the Steam Cloud system to work.
But, overall, I'd imagine the Steam Cloud's feature would be quite the compliment to this game.

I don't know how your thing is setup, or how the steamworks API works, but unlike achievements, I thought it would be fairly easy to do steamcloud support.
It seems everything relating to the syncing of save data can be handled by a program separate to the main executable.
Running Recettear from steam would run "recettear_steam_compat.exe" which would read the savedata from the steamcloud and save it to where it would normally go. Once that is done, it would run "recettear.exe" and linger in the background until the player closes the game down. Occasionally checking for save data modification, and re-syncing when applicable.
I am speaking entirely from assumptions, it's possible or even probable that I am way of the mark on this.

Take your time. It's good to see a publisher put quality of the core game first while considering improvements later. This will be well worth the price paid now knowing you guys are still going to look for ways to make it better down the road.
You've got my full support on this project.;)
