View Full Version : Crummy Netbook performance

I really like this game. After playing it a bit on my desktop, I realized that this game would play really well on my Eee PC 1000H since it's kind of low res and doesn't need a mouse or anything
However, I can barely get over 15 FPS on my netbook. I've been trying to tinker with the settings, but not much luck. Anybody know a way to get some better performance on a netbook?

turning rez down always works.
but if u cant run this game anymore than 15fps... time for an upgrade bud.this game isnt demanding at all nor does it even have high rezs

I have a desktop that plays this fine. Like I said, I'm trying to get this to play on a netbook. You can't really upgrade a netbook.
Of course the fact that it isn't demanding is why it is such a surprise that this doesn't run well on netbooks. Hell, everything about this game would be perfect for netbooks if the performance wasn't so ♥♥♥♥ty.

Is it a netbook with Intel-based graphics? Recettear does terribly with Intel-based graphics solutions.

Yup Intel GMA 950
But that's a shame. I wish there was a way to squeeze at least 30 frames out of this, because like I said this would be perfect for netbooks otherwise. So hard to find fun games with simple controls that don't require a mouse.

I have an EEE and it has an Intel GMA 950 as well. I've never been able to get more than 15 FPS out of anything 3Dish on it, no matter how primitive.
Of course, Intel's integrated graphics have always been crap, despite the fact that Intel keeps saying they're working on it but they never seem to get any better.
But I didn't buy Netbook for performance. I bought it because it was cheap enough to be disposible and it can run Office and OpenOffice (albeit slowly but still), so can't really complain about the performance.
I imagine a game like this wouldn't have any issues running on a slightly more featured laptop though.

Not the game's fault that Netbooks aren't made for gaming.

Who was blaming the game?

Every game does :p
Custom.exe does have some settings to lower the quality, you might want to try that if lowering the resolution alone doesn't work. Also I always though as an universal truth that playing in window mode will give you less FPS that full-screen (I might be wrong).

It's certainly true of older versions of Windows, but I don't think there's a lot of difference from Vista upwards.

He does have a Netbook, so that is either Windows XP or Windows 7 starter; Good to know that Fullscreen vs window doesn't apply post-vista anymore but maybe he has windows XP. Worth the shoot

It's the Aero interface that means it runs relatively well, because it uses 3D acceleration, and you wouldn't get that on most Intel equipped netbooks anyway, even if it's one of the few with Vista/Win7 installed.

The game works somewhat well if you limit the fps to 30 or 20 in the settings.
The animations become a little rough, but its playable without slowdowns that way.

I tested on an Alienware M11X R1 in low performance, limiting FPS to 30, and it pretty much stayed around there. No other settings checked. Strangely, the music didn't play the first time I tried, but I restarted the game and it came back.
Specs:
Intel SU7300 OC'd 1.73GHz
Intel 4 series graphics
4GB RAM

Would this work well on this laptop? Thinking of buying it as a gift for someone!
Core i3 350M with Intel GMA HD
Would the i3 carry the weight that the Atom can't quite manage?

I'm playing on a Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop. It has a Nvidia 8400GMS and Dual core 1.4ghz. I get 59fps constantly. Great performance.
I don't know if a 8400 is comparable to the Intel GMA HD. I would imagine the Intel is slightly better, but I don't really know at all.

The GMA HD in a Core-i processor should be enough to give a reliable 30FPS (which means for best speed, you should framelimit to 30FPS in the configuration tool). And yes, the i3 would be a fair bit more powerful than an Atom.
As we note on our FAQ page, the GMA X4000 and HD series seem sufficiently powerful to run the game without major mishap; it is earlier models of Intel's graphics processors that struggle with Recettear, due to missing crucial hardware capabilities.

That's good to hear :). It's a shame you can't customise the graphics more though.
