//First question\\
Hello Doom fans, I might use some help here.

You see, I wanted to go download zdoom (sourceport) from zdoom.org.

I was thinking about downloading it today but before, I went to siteadvisor to check if zdoom was safe.

http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/zdoom.org

When I checked the comments below, I saw something wierd.
Someone said he got an adware when he clicked on Zdoom.

Is Zdoom safe at all? Will it give me trojans? :confused:

//Second question\\
Second question is about doombuilder 2.

I installed it a few days ago because I wanted to make maps for Doom. I clicked on Doombuilder2.exe and my kaspersky pops up with a yellow window and says that Doombuilder has the same behavior as a keylogger.

Are you guys ok with these programs?
I mean, is it safe to use them?

I don't personally use ZDoom, I use the Doomsday Engine myself but I haven't heard anything bad about ZDoom at all or any storys about virus infections from them. Did you download it from the official site? Did you scan the folder before installing it? I've never heard of doombuilder 2 though.

It's most likely a false positive. I have several games that I had to give exceptions to get then to run because they got blocked by my A/V. This can happen a lot with really old XP and back games running on Vista/Win7 due to new security measures in them. I know they aren't virus's though because they are retail discs and the games have no patches.

The best you can do is DL from legit site, scan before installing, scan after extracting, and asking questions as you have done if you still aren't sure.

Zdoom.org is the official zdoom web.
Doombuilder.com is also the original website.

Well yes, these are probably false positives
Perhaps I misjudged them too fast.

Well, thanks for your reply.

I will wait for more answers before I take an official decision.

I agree, wait for someone that actually uses them.

My Kaspersky always suspects lots of games and programs as "possible PDM keylogger". I stopped paying attention to that. Yellow window doesn't mean "keylogger", it means "POSSIBLE keylogger". When Kaspersky finds the real keylogger known to it the window is red I think.

Lots of people including me have been using ZDoom and Doom Builder 2 for a long time and we had no problems with adware.

Yes, Grue12.

I suppose Kaspersky would show red pop up if it was real keylogger.

I'll give it a try. Thanks for helping me with my choices.

I will add everyone +1 rep for your answers.;)

This is strange. It says something about linking the zdoom.org to drdteam.org (another legitimate Doom site) and something about the second site, but does not give any details about the problematic programs or links. Or did I search in the wrong place?

I use DoomBuilders 1 and 2 and AVG has no problems with it. I don't use ZDoom, I use Doomsday like Maddogge there. I also use Snowberry launcher for Doomsday.

Pretty sure DoomBuilder 2 from the original site has the source code available, I think so you can look through there if you suspect something. DoomBuilder 1 is better for older machines, especially in 3D editing mode.

I use ZDoom and it's perfectly safe.

Isn't Kaspersky near famous for it's ability to fly off the handle quickly?

I've been making levels in Doom Builder 2 without issue. I use AVG and sometimes do scans with AdBlock. No warnings have surfaced thus far.

I used ZDoom for a while. It was always quality, and I never had any kinds of issues while using it.

Even though I use Doomsday (maybe you should take a look at that one too), you've got me curious. I think I'll revisit ZDoom today and see what they've been up to lately.

Take a look at Skulltag and ZDaemon too for some good multiplayer sourceports.
